Bring a book to hospital? Pay for TV rental?
Hi Everyone,
I'm having lap RNY and I've been told I'll be in the hospital three days. Obviously, the first day, I'll be totally out of it, but how about Days 2 and 3? Did you have enough concentration to read? Is it worthwhile paying the extra fee for a TV rental?

Brought books, didn't read them. A magazine is good. I did lots of sleeping and walking. I did have a tv, but I was there for 6 days. I didn't watch the day of surgery or the next day.

You don't TVs in your room? That's weird. I spent most of my time either asleep or walking the halls. I was bored to tears, the bed hurt, and the broth is nasty. Have someone sneak in the broth from won ton soup or miso soup to give some life to your diet.

I missed the TV rental part, sheeesh what's this world comming to when you have to rent a TV in the Freaking hospital.I guess i was spoiled ,I had my surgery done at Cleveland Clinic In Naples Florida. It's like the Ritz Carlaton..even my hubby was impressed....he had his own room attatched to mine. The bathrooms were all tiled, granite showers..maybe its a Florida thing.
I had my TV on all the time, just for background noise and Entertainment tonight.

I can NOT believe they make you rent a t.v.....what kind of crap is that!!! I had my surgery at noon and by 8p.m. I could not sleep for the life of me. I literally woke up every 10-15 minutes. I turned the t.v. on and surfed the stations most of the night. I also thumbed through magazines...my hubby went to the store while I was still out of it and brought back every chick magazine known to man. The nurses where cracking up over the stack of at least 20 different ones.

Couldn't concentrate enough to read - I did watch a lot of TV, though - as a matter of fact, it was on all the time for light and noise. So sorry you have to rent one!!!

I don't know if this hospital where I'm having my WLS charges a TV rental fee because the only time I stayed overnight there was for a sleep apnea test and no TV was allowed then. But two other two hospitals in nearby towns where I've been an in-patient charged a TV rental fee so I'm assuming that's standard practice around here. In one of the hospitals, I was told that the TVs were owned by the Volunteer Auxiliary and that the Auxiliary used the fees to fund new equipment for the children's ward, so I didn't mind paying. I was hospitalized once when I lived in Germany, and I had to pay a TV rental fee there, too.

@ tv rental! Bought books, but couldn't read. Tried to watch tv but couldn't get comfortable enough...nor would my eyes stay open long enough to read. So I mostly walked the halls.
