Check in Question
Hey Y'all-
Quick question. Were your buddies there the night you checked into the hospital? Must they be there or would it be okay if they went home to get sleep before the big 2-day marathon?

Your buddy
I just got dropped off and then the buddy showed up at surgery time, and then came up and visited me when I got out of surgery and then went home... I was pretty out of it so I didnt mind her not being there and just watching me sleep.... some people have their buddies with them the entire time... there is no right or wrong way to go about it, just whatever works for you.... best luck to you sugar pea! Keep us posted of how things are going....

Buddy...
My buddy, my husband, stayed with me the night I checked in until around 1:30 a.m. then went home to get some sleep before he had to be back at the hospital at 6:00 a.m. I took the sleeping pill and never knew that he wasn't there anyway. He went home each night to sleep in a nice bed and was back bright and early the next morning after dropping off the kids at school. It really is up to you and your buddy. You get to make up the rules!

Thank you. I've heard that there is no point in the buddy hanging around, but I wasn't sure. Have a great day.

Welcome. You are almost a looser! What emotions are you going through right now?
I wish you a blessed day!

In truth, I'm so tired. I've been cleaning, grocery shopping, running around and studying for a midterm (tomorrow night) I can't wait to spend some time in bed. I've been asked a lot if I'm nervous and I'm not. I am so excited! I'm ready to be a loser and start a new chapter in my life. I'm now counting down the hours (48 hours to go...40 hours till I'm a loser). I'm having fun! Thanks so much.

The countdown begins! How exciting for you.
As far as my time at the hospital, my husband spent the night when we checked in. They gave him a roll-away bed to crash in and I think he got more rest than I did. I didn't take the sleeping pill (big mistake) and it took me a while to settle down and relax. He left while I was in surgery, but Dr. Callery had his cell phone in case they needed him. He came back that evening when I was in intensive care, went home to sleep and get the kids off to school the next day and came back to visit me. That's when we both did the nursing station marathon.
Good luck to you and we'll see you on the other side of "Loserville".

If you're jittery/nervous/anxious about what's about to happen, might be nice to have the buddy there for the night. But if you take the sleeping pill they offer, you'll sleep thru anyhow. I sure did! Best night's sleep I've had in years!
Buddy or spouse/significant other needs to be at the hospital during the surgery - and it's nice to see a friendly face when you wake up from the anesthetic.
Play it by ear - it'll all be fine!

sleeping pill was great
I took the sleeping pill and as soon as I started falling asleep, my husband told me he would see me in the morning. It was the best nights sleep as Phil stated. When I woke up in the morning, my husband was there waiting for me. From that time on, everything went so quickly. My husband stayed and waited until I was in ICU. When I moved to the floor, my husband slept in a cot next to my bed and then during the day went home and rested and then came back. It is really all up to you. Good luck.
