I say go for it, Rod. You definitely have a knack for writing.

I get home Thursday night and take the longest shower known to man. Or about the average length of a shower for women (hehe). I jump out happy as a redneck at chilli cook-off and what do I see. A cold sore poking out of the top center of my upper lip.
Now I have to postpone the date till the dreaded fever blister goes away. I must be putting Abreva on this thing by the metric ton.

Heh. Life's a bitch, ain't it??

Simple. Don't do what you normally do when you're out with her.
<sigh> I suppose you want specifics, huh?
How about this: What do you think of a champagne hot air balloon ride and dinner afterwards at a really nice restaurant?
Okay, okay... that may be a bit steep in price for a '
real first date'... so maybe just the dinner at a really nice restaurant for now. I suppose you could maybe add in a trip to a local art museum... or a concert, perhaps.
Ah well, that's all I can come up with for now... maybe someone else will have better ideas... it's way past my bed time!
Good luck!
