Cottage Cheese Test
Have any of the Post-Ops done the cottage cheese test to see how big their pouch actually is? Just curious...I had read about this test and wondered if anyone actually used it.

You get a container of cottage cheese and measure it out. Then you eat as much cottage cheese as you can in 15 minutes or until it hurts. That gives you a rough idea of the size of your stomach. I for one don't care for cottage cheese anymore, so i think I would just retch if I tried the test. I do know that whn i eat a hearty soup, i can only get in 4-6 ounces.

Why worry about how big it is? They can't go in and make it smaller if you say it is too big. Nor can they make it bigger if you say it is too small. If you have RNY, trust your surgeon to make it the right size. If you have the band the fills will make it the right size. Enjoy the journey and work with the tool. Don't over test it. It knows the job it has to do, it is only a tool, use it properly.

I don't want to know how big it is! Right now, I eat my 2 oz. and I'm fine with that. I'm only a little over 2 weeks out. If I knew exactly how big it was, I would try to push it to capacity. That's not the point. I don't feel hunger yet, so why push it?

Why would you want to push your puch like that, and potentially piss it off... Sounds scarey to me!

I was told it wold be made the size of a thumb or 2 ounces and then after it heals and the swelling went down it would remain the size of a lemon.
This visual helps me to decide what amount of food to put on my plate.
The exception is with water based foods, like lettuce, melons, etc. I can can eat alot mor eof these types of foods.

Here is what Kelly told me
The pouch starts out the size of a ping pong. It slowly stretches to the size of a lime. Eventually, it stretches to the size of a lemon which is a matured pouch. I would never do the cottage cheese test because like Marie I would get sick...yuck. I really don't care what size my pouch is...I just want to make sure it works and I am not throwing up food. As long as I follow the rules and things go smoothly, it is all good.

i would be too scared to try the test too, but there are peeps that have "fallen off the wagon (pouch rules) that may want to do this, maybe it would give them a check in with their pouch to see the size and maybe they could start measuring their foods again, knowing that info that others have said, the sizes, lemons and limes and such is a good visual though, hopefully that helps some people out there
thanks for bringing this up Zen, all ideas help someone out there.
