Question How soon were you walking after lap? How long in hospital?

Hi,

I was wondering, how soon after your lap did the nurses get you up and let you walk around? Was it as soon as you woke up or did you have to use a bedpan for the first day?

Also, my surgeon says he usually keeps his lap patients in the hospital for three nights. Is this typical? It seems kind of long. Not that I'm second-guessing him or anything and I will do exactly what he says. It's just that they let me go home four days after my c-section, and a lap r-en-y is so much less invasive than a c-section.

They want you up as soon as you get back to your room and are awake from surgery. I was in too much pain and I couldn't get up until the following morning. I would take my pain medication, and they would give me a toradol shot and I would make myself walk when I had the pain medication in me and it got easier. I was practically running through the hospital by day 2. Out of hospital on day 3.

They made me try to get up as soon as I got back to my room. The morphine from the pain pump made me extremely sick to my stomach and as soon as I got up and got across the room I started to dry heave really really bad. Not a good feeling on a freshly operated on pouch. It didn't hurt b/c of the pain meds but it felt so sickly and it was so scary.
Anyway, they took out the morphine the next morning and within hours I was feeling much better and could walk without dry heaving.
Like Suzy, by the 2nd day I was pretty much running laps around the floor, it felt so good to move. About 11am the 3rd day I got to go home, and I live about 140 miles away from my surgeon.

In maintenance... now I'm yo-yoing up and down 10 lbs or so. I'm trying to find out how to stay at a set weight, it's rough.

Was up walking the same day with a foley cath. Catheter was taken out the next day. I spent less than 48 hrs in the hospital.

I was up walking within hours after my surgery. And I was in the hospital for a total of two days.

I know of another person who was in the hospital for five days (exact same surgery as me and same surgeon, too) but that was because she developed a low-grade fever and they wanted to monitor her... She ended up being fine.
