Smile Introducing Me

Hi. Today is my day to be brave.

I officially signed up with my HMO today to become a Gastric Bypass patient. I officially signed up here... instead of lurking like I've done for the past 4 months, oh... and I killed a spider.

My name is Mel. I'm 41. I've been married to my wonderful husband for almost 6 years. We have an amazing little miracle girl that is 5. I have a rewarding job, good friends and 185 pounds of unwanted fat!

I've been lurking on several GBS boards for several months and I decided to sign up here since I love the banter and the personalities here. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone as I take this journey!

Mel:
ooooh, spider - icky!

You'll find that this group of people are the most informed, caring and friendly group of folks you're gonna meet. There was a time when I was questioning whether or not I'd get insurance approval, and I felt sad that if I didn't, I would miss everyone on this forum! Don't know why I still couldn't visit - guess that was silly. Anyway, you're on your way!

Thank you so much for the warm welcome! Now that I've made the decision... I'm actually very excited and anxious to have the surgery. I have Kaiser... so they have a 6 month process.. most of it working with the dietician. Since I also am diabetic, and have worked with the dietician for 18 months, and lost 10% of my body weight, my pcp is hoping for a quicker route since I've already done the dietician thing to death! Also, I really don't want to have to buy any more clothes in my current size!

Then again.. it is Kaiser, and they are really by the book!

Hail oh great vanquisher of arachnids!

Welcome and salutations! You can't find a better group of people here.

I was viciously attacked by a brown recluse spider two years ago, and landed in the hospital for a few days, having a good chunk of my leg cut out where the little sucker bit me, and home for another week with an IV and heavy duty antibiotics.

Needless to say - NOT FUN!

Anyway, again, welcome!

Baron... you made me laugh! We live in a 200 year old house in Ohio and although it is well made... it does seem to attract the occasional big old hairy nasty spider. I had a nasty bite from a wolf spider in college and it was a particularly nasty experience too.

Hi Mel!
We welcome all spider-killers! Have you ever seen a camel cricket? They look like huge spiders, but jump...high....across rooms. Yuck!

Anyway, congrats on taking the first steps of your journey! I know what you mean about taking the plunge and signing up here. At first, it can be difficult to talk about yourself to others, but I really think it helps. This board rocks!!!!! You'll learn so much about what's to come.

Default Welcome!

Oh I agree that your insurance should take the past 18 months into consideration. Your doctor might be able to go to bat for you, as you said.

Welcome to the board - you get lots of information here and sometimes split your sides laughing.
