Default I told my husband

Well lastnight he told me that he ran into a customer who he hadn't seen in quite a while. She said "Hey, how are you?" and he asked "do I know you?" because he hadn't a clue who she was and she tipped her glasses down and he was like "wholy crap" (only with a more "choice" word) I guess she had lost 110lbs with WLS. I jumped on this opportunity to tell himt hat I wnated to have it done. He just looked at me then he said......"you aren't nearly big enough" I Love him to death and knew he'd say something to that effect but what I really wanted to know if he'd support this decision, so I asked him. He paused and then said "I guess" kind of half heartedly and added "there are so many risks." I told him that I was aware of the risks and spent alot of time weighing them with the benifits and had come to the conclusion I wanted to look into it more but was having isues with my Dr. not being supportive. He has had 2 aunts and a cousin who have had the surgery sucessfully so I know he has fiath in it but I saw in his face that he was uncomfortable with me being "thin"....did any of you deal with that? Insecure spouses or jealous friends? How does that effect you empotionally on this very emotional journey?

I am just glad that I said it outloud to him, he was the one I was most intimidated about telling (not sure why?) I have another Dr's apt today where I will try to convince her to atleast get me on a supervised diet to get documentation started. I got my bloodwork back and my chol/tri are still bad and she wants me on Niacin and a cholesterol diet......cross you'r fingers for me please. Maybe she'll see the light.

Good luck with your Doctor.. hopefully everything will work out the way you want it to. As far as the husband goes, let it sink in for him a bit.. it has to be very difficult to have a husband or wife go through this proceedure knowing all the risks. However, he loves you and he will support you no matter what I am sure. You will have ignorant people in your life pre and post-op who will try and talk you out of it or give you crap for having it done. Those people should be ignored or informed either way. I had people get ugly with me when I told them I was having this done and I just laughed them off. Not that it didn't get under my skin a bit. Especially when they would say stuff like "all you need to do is eat right and exercise" .. my response was always something like "really?? That's the key??? hmmm I never knew that.. thanks!" Duh!!! Hellooooooooo I wasn't born this morning!!! LOL

Oh well.. he'll come around..

Smile Hope this helps

Your friends will have mixed reactions, they want to see you happy and people usually think that its thinness that we want, when it more like wellness and being healthy. If we keep walking on our presurgical path, that could ultimately kill us as well. Some reactions you'll hear are, " but what about the risks?" Well the benefits far outweigh the risks! And for every 1 person who had a "bad experience" I'll show you 200 who didnt.... this is what I say to those types of comments.

Post surgically, when we are headed down the path of wellness, you will start getting reactions from people that can hurtful as well... It's a never ending journey for us. Stay close, become as educated as you can about WLS and have a support system. Alot of folks have a support system at home with folks that are encouraging, but with our support group you are with those who have walked a mile in your shoes and can feel where you are coming from. Additionally, when you have people who love you and are supportive and encouraging it is a real blow when you come upon someone who has negative things to say about YOUR choice, the support group pals give insight and get you through it. Like I say, we'll help you through it, not tell you to get over it! You will find that you may lose friends, I have but I dont mind because I make bunches of new ones a month... its a metamorphis Queen... everyday is life changing when you decide to go through WLS. I hope I didnt ramble ot get off subject too much. Good luck lady!

Queen,
Good luck with your appointment today, hopefully she will see the light. I have a wonderful PCP who is the one who gently pushed me in the right direction. I just saw her Monday and she gave me a big hug and told me how proud of me she is. I am 11 weeks out and have lost 71 pounds so far. I am off my high blood pressure meds and feeling fantastic! I would do it again in a heartbeat. I too have people who think that this is the "easy" way to do this. Let me tell you, over 30 years of trying it the "hard" way was enough to kill me. Good luck and you will be in my prayers.
