Default complications rewards

What are some of the complications that ya'll have add with the rny surgery.

I have heard that sometimes they have to go back in and dialate the opening again.

If you had to do it over again, would you? With all the ricks or complications.

I am still trying to think about which WLS I want, so I am still looking and studing information.

I came home on a Monday and by Wednesday I was back in the hospital because of an infection . I had open RNY and was draining by my insision and it stunk ! I called the doctor and was told to come in. He had to reopen me but the infection was more than he could clean out in his office so I was readmitted. I was in there for a week , twice a day my dressing was cleaned out and had to have the infection cleaned out in the o.r. He had me on three types of antibiotic , really strong ones, and eventually I had to have a pic line put in because I was having trouble with the i.v.lines. I came home with a "wound vac" it looks like a sponge that lays in the wound and it is hooked up to a canister that sucks the infection out. It took a little over a month for me to heal up. Now he keeps checking me for a hernia. He says that with open rny there is a chance for a hernia. ( good news if it does happen ins. will usually cover your plastic surgery, tummy tuck, I have been told) WOULD I DO IT AGAIN??? In a heart beat. I am feeling so much better now. More energy, can cross my legs again ! Can chase after my grandson who is now a year old ! I only wish I had done this sooner. Hope this helps,
Sandy

No complications here....I'm 5 months out. I had a nice side of nausea for awhile is all. Good luck in your research.

No complications here either. I had LapRNY on 12/5/05-not even so much as a dumping episode. I went back to work in a little over two weeks and my best advice would be to find a VERY experienced Dr.
I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I had complications similar to Sandy's....but am now 7 weeks out, feeling fantastic.....love seeing the scale go down. I am sooooooo happy I had this done. I feel it was a privelage to have this surgery. I remember the day this was ONLY for the rich and famous. Anyway...every BODY is different and will react differently to the trauma of surgery. But I would venture to guess, that no matter the complication....99% of the patients who have had this surgery and stay in support group, and listen to their DR's.....would do this surgery again if given the choice.

Complications? Only one...I look and feel friggin great!

Actually not true but it sounds good. I had a lap proceedure and when they went in they discovered that I had some adhesion between my pancreas and my stomach that they needed to deal with. They needed to separate the two and in doing so they created a tear in my stomach. My surgeon repaired the tear and then proceeded with the bypass. Because of the extra work that was done, I spent an extra 2 days in the hospital just to make sure I was good to go. Also, that meant that I had to have the NG tube in for 3 days...which really sucked.

Post surgery I really didn't experience any pain. Being an impetuous guy I made all the rookie mistakes...eating to fast, eating too much, eating the wrong things. When I've done those things I've barfed. You get used to it and learn from it. Also, I get dizzy when I stand up, don't know why but I'm getting used to that as well.

Mine was laproscopic. No complications. No dumping. I gulped water one time and had a sharp pain, but that was obviously my fault.

I'm really happy!
