Default Wedding Dress Delimna

I got my dress for my upcoming April 29th wedding and its way too small. I don’t know what I was thinking ordering a 2x. I didn’t take the measurements into consideration, thinking that it’d be what I perceive a 2x to be. If this dress is a 2x; it's based on sizes for little people.

I am 10 inches too big in the bust; and 8 inches too big in the hips. My average weekly weight loss has been 6.67 pounds; and there are 11 weeks until the wedding. Even if I lower that to 6 pounds per week, I could loose another 60 pounds before the wedding; and then I’d weigh 260. I will try to step it up and loose more, but I’m just not sure it’ll happen. If I loose at the current average of 6.67 pounds, I could theoritically get down to 247.

Can anyone remember how big a difference in inches something like 60 pounds makes????

The dress was bought on final close out clearance on the internet; and I might not be able to exchange it. I know I can’t return it, but I will try to exchange it for a 3x. Not that the 3x puts me into that much of a better circumstance as it only gives an extra two inches in bust and two inches in the hips; but every inch will help I guess. I’d rather the dress be loose than too tight. I will also get a body slimmer to wear and that should help some.

I guess if I really had to I could take it so a seamstress and have some extra fabric put in; if we can match the fabric.

Dorie remember you can lose inches without dropping a pound. Don't panic, 11 weeks is almost 3 months away. I do think you should be fine but remember you can hit a standstill in your weight loss. But you could increase your weight loss by increasing your protein and exercising at least twice a day. That for sure will have the weight dropping off you. Congrats on the big day. I am sure everything will workout.

I think every 10-15 pounds is one dress size. The wedding industry has a warped sense of sizes. I would estimate at least 2 size diffence between their charts and normal store clothes. I am 5'7" and weigh about 250 and it put me in a tight 24 for a dress I wore this weekend as part of a wedding when all of my 22s are falling off of me. If you can exchange it....great, if not do your best and then 3 weeks before, hit goodwill, consignment stores, and ebay for dresses. Davids bridal by us has relatively inexpensive dresses that are quite beautiful. They may not be made as well as some of the coture bridal stores, but hell, you only need it to last one day. Sell yours on ebay and you will only have to worry about the difference if any. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding.

Doris, I really feel for you-- fitting into that danged wedding dress was THE most stressful part of the entire wedding process for me. Sizing on wedding dresses is NOTHING like sizing on normal clothes; it's absolutely EVIL.

With that being said, you will probably get close to, if not under, a weight to fit into the thing by your wedding. But regardless of what happens, start searching NOW for a great seamstress that can give you some ideas of what you might be able to to to accomodate you AND the dress. Perhaps there is some way to modify it to be more expanding-contracting-- a laced-up back, maybe?

Take it day by day girl. I hear all the time how people loose inches and not much weight, so you never know. When in doubt, I have always bought big, but maybe this has been part of my problem. I think you can always take away material, but its harder to add. Trouble with a wedding dress can cause lots of stress that you don't need when you get married. Have a back-up plan so you can relax a little. Congrats on your upcoming nuptuals.

Congrats on the upcoming wedding....how exciting! I am thinking you might be able to do it......but please resist any urge to starve! Follow your docs rules and exercise. Denise is right, I was losing very slowly and the inches were moving. I'd give it 6 weeks before you panic. Keep us updated on your progress......you are doing fantastic!

I am finding that I am losing way more inches than I am lbs. Good luck on your upcoming wedding.

You may very well fit into it by April. If that is the dress you want, then keep it. I don't think that it is unrealistic to expect to fit into it. Maybe you could wait until closer and get a back up dress if this one doesn't fit? Good luck and congrats!
