Default Eating junk food

Will you still lose weight early out if you occasionaly eat chips, low fat icecream and some junk foods? Or does it all have to be low fat, healthy food. I am 1 month out of surgery and cheating some. is this ok?

Default Tread lightly

I have lost a total of 40 pounds in 6 weeks, an average of about 6.5 pounds per week. I have had chips and occasionally eat a bite size piece of something sweet. I was "snacking" and it made me scared that I was ruining my surgery so I started to count calories and I barely clear 800 per day even with occasionally "cheating". Just be careful and don't overdo it, make sure you aren't eating too many calories. If you do eat chips, opt for baked ones. If you are craving that salty/crispy taste/flavor, try cheez-its or goldfish; they are both very cheesy & salty, but are baked so have less calories!

Best wishes to you!

I admittedly snack. I eat healthy probably 90% of the time. I try to limit the snacking, and I try to reserve the really unhealthy things for special cravings or occasions and in small quantities. When I can I try to switch out chips for soy nuts, or pretzels for lowfat popcorn, crackers I choose whole grain and have a little lowfat cheese, etc. But once in awhile, you just indulge a little. The key is finding a balance. I am trying very hard to get a lifestyle going that I can maintain later as a healthy person at a healthy weight. At this point it would be hard NOT to lose weight no matter, but as you get smaller, you would have to restrict more and more to get to goal. They suggest losing as much as you can early out because it is the "easiest" time. But honestly, if you make sure you limit the snacks and make the healthiest choices most frequently, I believe it all shakes down. Most skinny people do not eat healthy 100% of the time. Keep in mind that this post is my opinion....and I am only 5 months out. But so far, this is working for me. When I find my snacking getting out of control I get on this board, get out my notepad, get to thinking, and figure out what to do about it to get ME in control rather than the food. For me, this has been adding beverages, buying or dividing into small portions, and being diligent about breakfast. Dang, I'm longwinded.

I have discovered soy crisps. If I need a crunch they are a wonderful taste and supersatisfying. They are low in fat and high in protein. It is all about choices. I know me. If I start with chips and bites of fast food today, in two months it will be a kids burger and french fries. It is a slippery slope for me.

Missy honestly I think you heading down a bad path of bad habits. You are only a month out and honestly I wasn't even worried about any junk but I know everyone is different, I just think you might head down a bad road, that you are trying to avoid anyways. I hope you find the solution to your questions.

I have to agree with Denise. The "honeymoon" period does end and all those snacking desires come back. Use this time to try and get a handle on them. This is the opportunity to change your relationship with food.

My surgeon really turned me loose with food, said I could eat anything that I wanted to try. Well there is sucess and failure. However I know that my tummy will hold about 5 bites and so I decide daily what those 5 bites will be. There is only so much you can eat and you have to get in protein ... so I made my choices that way. I have not had chips, anything sweet, and nothing cabonated. I have dumped on too much fat... I tried green beef enchiladas .. 2 bites and well... never again.

I don't want to even try anything sweet, because if I DON'T dump I don't want to know it... I would rather have it in my head that sweets will make me sorry.

I am trying so hard to be diligant in all things. That includes the gym 6 days a week.

I am with Diane it is a slippery slope for me too.

I have to agree. I never even thought or tried those things until 6 months out.

Um I would try not to snack .. give yourself permission once in a while. Problem is you have a window of opportunity to lose the weight and it's the first 12-18 months. So I would try and adhere to the diet as much as possible. I would hate to see you trying to take off the last 40 lbs because you snacked along the way. Suzy
