Red face One more question

Is there anything I can do without having been referred? I know I can't do tests or anything but what about these orientations you speak of? I hear there can be a wait for them, should I start early on something like that?

Default QueenB,

Sure, you can get your annual pap and mammogram out of the way. You'll need to have that as part of your pre acceptance. Those two usually take months anyway to schedule. Once you get the authorization to see Callery, during this visit, they will provide you with a list of things you'll have to get done.

I'm not sure about the general meetings at Dr. Callery's office. Finding out information is always a good thing, but I'm not sure on the right days of the month in which this would be appropriate. You could always call the office to find out.

Good luck!

You don't need an auth to go to the meetings. The education seminar is usually full and has a 2-3 month waiting period. The seminars are good for a year if you don't get a consult auth for a while. I signed up in Oct 2003 for the January Ed seminar. I didn't get consult approval until April. It's better to get the seminars done ASAP which will help to prepare for the steps to go through next.

Post Things To Do Ahead of Time

Queen B...definitely get sheduled for the orientation/educational seminar. I had to wait from October 2002 until February 2003 to get into the educational seminar.

If your annual pap and/or mammogram happens while you're waiting for the educational seminar, go with those too. I think there are some "special" blood tests they do, but if your annual physical (they usually check your blood at that time too), then go with that as well.

And lastly, if there are some major projects you want to accomplish, do that too because once things start getting approved for the surgery and you move through the process, it will happen before you know it. I spring cleaned my house, took care of some personal paperwork, worked on projects from work that were not at the top of my "to do" list, and generally got my life organized.

Well, I hope that answers your question somewhat. I wish you the best of luck on getting your approval and your surgery date.

Take Care,
Pamela
