Maybe a Dumb Question?
Okay, so surgery is in 4 days and I really feel like doing a girly, pampered thing today like get new acrylic nails and a pedicure. Is there ANY REASON why I shouldn't have fake nails put on? Like I said, might be a dumb question, but god knows I don't want to inadvertantly put off surgery because of NAILS!!

My doc simpy says no nail polish, and b/c I have the pink and white french fill, he said it was okay. I will be soing the same thing, but I will also be getting my hair cut and colored closer to surgery, and I will probably tale a trip to Burke Williams for a massage and a facial

I believe they told us no fakys or polish.........better check before spending out the moola. It would be a great "feeling better" gift for a week post-op too! Wow, your time is near...........how exciting!!

Yes, I did go color my hair and get it cut right before.

They allowed fake nails and polish when I had mine done. Just make sure that they aren't too long because the put this clippy thing on your finger to measure the amount of oxygen you are getting.

I also went and got a manicure (clear polish) and a pedicure and a wash and style the day before surgery. I just wanted to pamper myself and knew that I would not feel like doing my nails much after surgery. Then during the postop period while I was off from work I went and got the fake ones put on.

My surgeon said no to fake nails or polish. Your nailbeds turn blue when there is a lack of oxygen ... that is hard to see under fakes and dark polish. I would wait until a week or so after to do the nails. Pedicure and the hair and massage though I would go for!!!!!

I think you just have to have one finger that is not done. Ask your doc. I had planned on getting a pedi and never got around to it. I did get my eyebrows done which I was glad I did!

I got my hair and hair color done right before, but didn't do my nails.. I know from past surgeries they like to be able to see through your nails, it's how they help monitor problems.. I'd wait until after and pamper yourself because trust me you will feel like shit for a while and it helps. So treat yourself to pedicure, and manicure when it's over. Suzy

An anaesthetist would tell you no. Nail beds need to be clear to check for cyanosis.
Treat yourself after surgery instead.
