Default Miryam is back from the hospital

well, i"m back!
I went in on Tuesday morning and was out of surgery by 10:30 AM (I don't remember any of this) and i had a pretty easy time of it all. yesterday started off great, my upper GI was good so they let me start on liquids, and all was going well until my nurse @#$%*# up. It turns out that my nurse was a floater and not used to working with bariatric patients (she is normally in the ICU so she is considered qualified... but didn't know all the issues), anyhow she gave me too many pills at once and my pouch couldn't handle it and i was a reall mess for about two hours with an awful reaction. She tried to tell my aunt (who was with me) that the reaction was normal but my aunt insisted that someone is called in. All the doctors came and figured out that it was the pills and the nurse is..well.. back on her usual floor. (Moral of the story- always have an advocate in the hospital!) The thought they were going to have to keep me an extra day becasue of this, but my morning went so well, and i was able to eat the soft puree in the hospital, so they let me out.

woo hoo

One could get really sick in a hospital. You go in fine and they can f*(&^% you up pretty good. You are absolutely right about having someone there with/for you. Welcome home and I am glad you are ok.

Welcome to the Bench Miryam. I highly agree always be your own advocate. If something is going on and it doesn't seem or feel right, bring it to the nurses attention and if she isn't acting right ask to speak to the charge nurse. I am glad you and your aunt was on top of the situation. I think a lot of nurses who work on Med-Surg should be trained to handle GB patient. The increase of people having this procedure is growing fast and it is scary to know that there is someone who is not trained to take care of you properly(that is another topic in it self) but I am just happy you have made it to the other side safe and sound.

My second day at the hospital, a resident doctor tried giving me a pain killer that was on the list that I should NEVER take again, I agrued with him up and down! A nurse had to finally step in and tell him I was right! Imagine that, a doctor that doesn't know what he's talking about.... He was no longer allowed in my room for the rest of my stay.

Default Miryam,

Welcome to the Loser's Side! I bet you are SO GLAD to be home. I know I was. I'm sorry to hear about the problems you had but I'm glad you didn't have to stay in the hospital an extra day. Have fun sipping...it's such an exciting experience!

*toasting to your recovery with her bottle of water*
