I don't want to sound morbid....
This may sound like I'm taking a walk on the dark side ...but I was wondering if anyone is planning on ...or if you're post-op... already did write any type of letters to your spouse/kids before surgery. Like I said, I don't want to be morbid...and a big part of me having this surgery is so I'll have more years and a better quality of time with my family, but I can't help but worry in a teeny, tiny corner of my brain.
Maybe I'm just having a panic moment....or maybe it's the Liquid Nyquil that I've been taking for this HEAD COLD FROM HELL that's been hanging around for the last week!

You are not panicing. I had the chat with my husband (I don;'t have a formal will), but I did write things down in my own handwriting, placed the note in my Bible and told my husband where the note was IF anything were to happen. Just that simple.
I think it is normal....but maybe I AM CRAZY

Good Question
I've been wondering the same thing. I haven't decided what to do yet, but that has been in the back of my mind since I decided to do the surgery.

I don't have children, but I wrote a health directive if anything happened I didn't want life support, and I made a will. It's just to be on the safe side.. I didn't want my dogs to be orphans. Suzy

I did
Before I went in for surgery I wrote a note to each of my kids. I still have them in my drawer. I thought that if I left them I wanted them to know I loved them. I hand wrote them not type them.

I'm so glad to hear you guys say that! Now I don't feel like I'm weird to be having those thoughts!
I actually have a will, (my husband insisted we get one before we went on vacation to Mexico a year ago--I guess he thought we'd get lost in the ruins) so I don't have to worry about who gets what..that type of thing. I just want them to know my feelings...but don't want to scare them by having a "if something goes wrong" conversation face to face before surgery.
Thanks for sharing....makes me feel better!

Lisa, I did. I wrote a letter to my husband and my son but hid it under my home computer where they would find it later. Well, a few weeks after surgery I took the letters and tossed them.

Preparations
I didn't write letters, but I did take care of business before surgery. I rewrote my Will, made a healthcare directive, even completed a questionnaire about my funeral and burial wishes. I wanted everything in order, just in case. Obviously, I didn't need any of it. But I still have the documents safely stored in our home safe. One day, someone will need them. Hopefully not for a long, long time!

I'm writing them
and giving them to a close family friend with the instructions that she's only to give them to my kids if necessary. I didn't want to just leave them somewhere in the house and have them discovered at the wrong time - or not at all!
I also had a talk with my husband, but I'm sure we'll have more, about the fact that I totally trust him to make decisions for me based on the facts and his knowledge of me. You can't cover every single possibility.
It feels morbid to me too, (but I'm Italian Roman Catholic, so no real suprise) but it would be worse for them not to have something.
Chances are, my friend will hand them back to me a week after my surgery and I can tuck them away somewhere.

Lisa,
The best letters you can write before surgery, is what you write on a day by day basis with Love..... there is no need to put it in paper....
