i was in the hospital tues for surgery , wed and went home wed
i went to work the next week but then
complications i was home and working for almost two weeks, but ended up with a stricture (the new connection was closing up and it caused me to throw up a lot) so i went back in for 4 days to have a serious of scopes done to reopen the new connection this is not a big deal & its unpainful complication when you body over heals...i went home for a few weeks then had another stricture began to form and was back in for 2 days for another scope & since we drove 2 hours they kept me over night usually its an out patient then went home for 2 weeks but the stricture came back and i went back in again for a serious of scopes 5 days in the hospital and 4 scopes now i have been home for a little over a month and everything seems GREAT no more strictures (also look at complications in the search area)
my family came with me to the hospital (tues, was surgery, wed, thurs came home and they were with me over the weekend at home - my mom took mon off to spend the day with me and make me soup - but on tues she went to work and a friend picked me up and we went to the mall to walk around
no kidney issues ever for me
i wish you the best of luck in deciding if this is right for your husband! I will say it has made such a difference in my life
I am so glad I did it!!!!!!!

welcome! Glad you are here!
I had surgery Tues went home Fri.
I work in a factory and it is pretty labor intensive so I was off work 6 weeks. I also had my surgery open.
I had one minor complication-a stricture at about 5 weeks out. Went to the hospital and the doc stretched while doing an EGD. I was there all darn day, but the whole procedure took about 8 minutes. I felt great after and have had no other problems.
I have never had any type of kidney problems since wls.
I hope that helps!

How long were you in the hospital? 4 days
How long did it take you to be able to return to work at a desk job? Should be back in 2 weeks from surgery date
Did complications arise? I have an extra heart beat, so the doctors kept me in the Cardiology unit the entire 4 days
What did your family do to help you? My wife, son, and daughter-in-law have been very supportive from day 1
Did you develop more kidney stones? I have read that on other sights? N/A
Did you have kidney problems before the surgery? No
Before your husband ever gets to the table they will put him thru all kinds of tests and procedures to see what shape his body is in, and what he coud endure during the surgery. I think they poked and probed almost every opening in my body before they cleared me.
I started Jan 2005 at 431 pounds, and it was the year from hell, but worth every bit of it (easier to say now). I have 6 weeks of vacation and probably used 5 weeks of it on appointments, tests, and followups.
On January 16th 2006 i weighed in at 345 pounds, down 86 and 15 under the surgeons desired weight. Because of my extra weight loss I was able to have the Rouxeny (sp) with the small incisions rather than the large cut.
He will need your love and support to prepare him if this is the decision he makes. I say "HE: because ultimately it's him having to make a drastic life style change.
Surgery is only a tool, and you basically have the time before and 9 months after to get in gear, get focused, and start making changes. After that it's make it or break it time. They say 5 years is the true test.
I wish both of you success, and with his health problems it can't do anything but help.

How long were you in the hospital? went in monday and came home thursday(laproscopic)
How long did it take you to be able to return to work at a desk job? I'm a student so i don't work, but i was ready for classes in 3 weeks.
Did complications arise? Got gallstones and my gallbladder was infected. Had to go back in for gallbladder surgery at 4months post-op.
What did your family do to help you? They were amazing and did everything from reminding me to drink to going for short walks.
Did you develop more kidney stones? no, but they are now watching me and doing some testing because i have protein in my urine which could be a sign of kidney problems.

Depends on the surgeon... typically 2-3 hours for LAP. That would be how long you are under also.
