Everyone is different. You would be surprised of how much mashed potatoes or mashed califlower you can eat if you take it slow lol

Hmmm
Again...you have given me something to mull over. I hadn't actually thought about the fact that I won't be able to eat the WHOLE bag of popcorn and go for a refill for the kids!!! It will certainly be nice to get out of a restaurant for less moolah!!!

Velma:
You're not eating too fast. You're supposed to stop eating after 15 to 20 minutes. You're doing it just right.
However, we can also eat a lot of soft, mushy foods...much more than bulkier foods. It goes down very smoothly.

I'm LOL, one of my co-workers made Mashed Cauliflower for our Thanksgiving luncheon and it wasn't something that sounded all that appetizing too me, but I ventured and tasted it, it was pretty good (I needed more seasoning), but overall pretty good.
I'm with ya on the popcorn too. LOVE movie popcorn, and the first movie Post Op, my movie date (bless his heart), called himself being sweet and bought me a giant popcorn and drink (he had his own) now even before WLS I couldn't eat that much Popcorn nor do I drink sodas that much especially at the movies (seem to make me sick) anyway I'm looking at the bag going OMG (he didn't know about the surgery), so just ate a few handfuls that mercifully went down just right, just didn't push my luck. Felt bad about the wasted $ though.
I have to say, that one thing I am learning, I love eating out (more for socializing) than anything else, I have learned to just sip on drinks, not really order things to eat (unless it's too go) and nibble from a friends plate (one bite will usually do it). I just love it that I can comfortably go out and for the most part not feel pressured (because I'm hungry or think I am) to order something to eat.

P.S I'm just in a sharing mode today . I have found that I handle something like potatoes wedges and crispy french fries ( only eat a few) much better than say mashed potatoes. MP's just don't go down as well for me. Just my experience. Funny how the body can & can't tolerate some foods. I also eat steak better than say a piece of Salmon. Again don't know why just each person's physiology being different I guess.

its so hard to eat out at this point i can only have about 5 bites off my husbands or childs plate so we have not gone out much - which has saved us a LOT of money! i do LOVE potato skins! and brocolli soup too!

Eating out is one thing my DH and I really enjoy together-and Cracker Barrel is my favorite restaraunt. YUM. Last night I went to a steak house-Ponderosa-I had some cottage cheese and pinapple, some bean/bacon soup, and some sugar free spice cake-didn't eat much of anything but enjoyed what I did eat. I've been afraid to go out to eat because I can't eat enough to get my moneys worth-but I'm not going to let that stop me any more. If I have to order too much-I'll take it home-or share it with someone. Today, we forgot our lunch and went to "Eat and Park"--I had scrambled eggs. Not quite so good-but I still enjoyed very much the time with the hubster!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again...I've decided (for now) my rule of thumb is to not eat meat when I eat out. I've had such bad luck. A couple of bites chewed well, and I'm stuffed to the gills, and sometimes, it won't go down. Then what're you supposed to do? Figure out where the bathroom is just in case.
I keep remembering the things that have some protein in them. Mashed potatoes, soups, etc. Then I take the rest home for dinner later. I don't eat out that much, so it's not like I'm depriving myself of protein! Maybe in a year, I'll be able to eat everything fine, but now it takes off a lot of the eating out stage fright!
I ordered small popcorns before WLS, so it's not that big of a deal now. I just barely eat 1/4 - 1/2 throughout the WHOLE movie. (yes, longer than the 20-30 min rule) But I get the taste of it!

Mashed Cauliflower
I LOVE it, and I feed it to the kiddos... they dont know the difference! BUT cheddar cheese and a little bit of sour cream mixed in make it FABULOUS!
