I am reading everything I can get my hands on and making Excel lists after lists: what to pack for the hospital, what to get before to make life easier later, things i want to fo when I lose weight (for focus) et etc.
I also have orderedsample protein packs so I can taste then ahead of time (I know I know - our tastes may change). I also post and read on this site!!!

Instead of the Wooden spoon
All this talk of wooden spoons here a month back made me concerned about the ability to take care of myself post op eventhough I can reach everything now. So I invested ($25) on a personal travel bidet. You can get it on ebay. search under travel bidet and a company called hygiene for health sells them for a best offer bid. I bid 25 and 8 shipping and got it. It is basically a water pic for your private parts. Having a period on heparin may make it come in handy as well.

Chapstick and sugar free mints .. if your dr. lets you have them. My mouth was so dry and my throat so sore and they didn't let me have ice for hours. The mints are what saved me.

In the hospital I needed:
The strongest toothpaste you can find because you are going to feel as though you have literally swallowed a wad of tissues.
Blistex
Plenty of music on your IPOD, MP3 or cd player
Something to read
Extra socks (for some reason in the hospital my feet were freezing)
Really good smelling soap and shampoo (the smells of the hospital made me gag for some reason, things like disinfectant and medicine smells killed me post op)
snuggli clothing (something really comfortable)
First days at home:
Bottled water
Crystal light
Chicken soup broth
sugar free ice pops
sugar free ice pops
sugar free ice pops (seriously could not get enough of these)
good chick flicks to watch on DVD
extra gauze and tape to cover if you have any drainage from your wounds (I was not prepared for this and until the store opened the next day I had to wad up paper towel and scotch tape it over the one incision that was leaking....LOL)
oh, did I mention sugar free icepops?

something really comfortable--and big. You will probably weigh at least 6-14 pounds more when you leave the hospital than you do when you get there.
Life savers..
crystal light (walmart makes a good knockoff)
warm cozy slippers
tomato soup
a pillow for coughing
protein, protein, protein
decaf coffee
a new water bottle
perhaps a sippy cup-have to take tiny, tiny swallows at first.

What I needed
CHAPSTICK. Please DO NOT leave home without it. Also baggy comfy PJ's. Something to read. Lots of support. When I got home I needed gas-x. Make sure you have that on hand. Also if you can get a detachable shower head that would help because I know that taking a shower was hard the first week or so. This way if you get tired you can sit down and still wash your hair. Hope this helps a little.

I cannot drink any of the protein shakes that I like pre op. The only protein that I can choke down now is the unflavored.
So my must have list:
Chapstick
Crystal Light
SF Popciciles - LOTS
Music
Slippers for hospital
