How about sharing that list with us when you are through. I know I have no clue what is needed. I know at least 8 people who have had the surgery, but they haven't shared any of what I read here!!!

I am a stomach sleeper and had a heck of a time sleeping on my back for a week until the drain tube came out. I could not find any way to sleep on my side because it hurt my ribs where the draintube was.

Default Tips

Let's see: Liquids go down and stay down if they are room temp or slightly warm-either very hot or very cold irritates the new pouch.

Peppermint tic-tacs were a good choice for me.

Be assertive-insist on having your needs met. Complain if you need to to get the kind of care you expect for mega-bucks a day!

Bring your favorite lotion-hospital air is very dry.

A hairband or pony tail holder will kep your hair out of your face and your way when you don't want to be bothered. I brought a bright tie dye print to cheer myself up!

Even another post-op patient can be a walking buddy in the hospital. I hated pacing the halls alone.

I have been the exact opposite. I cannot tolerate room temp stuff, it has to be frozen, ice cold or hot in order to stay down. Room temp stuff, even water, wants to come right back up.

Go figure!!

Default oh nooooo

this is getting funny!
so far i've learned that some people can ONLY have ice water, while some people can ONLY have room temp...while some people can ONLY have hot water.... i guess what i really learned is that there is a lot of trial and error involved

In the hospital I was glad I had something to read and my warm slippers. I didn't need pj's, just something comfy to go home in. Oh yeah and if the medication they give you for pain isn't working...ask right away for something else! I made the mistake of thinking it would kick in sometime soon and put myself into pain hell for over an hour waiting to get given something else!!! At home I just needed lots of liquids, sugar free popsicles were the best for me.

Sure...I will email you the excel lists - don't laugh, though - and if I have forgotten anything that you see, you have to promise to let me know so I can...add it to my list. I'm making a list and checking it twice!!!

If you are having Lap you may only be there 24 hours or so so don't take too much stuff. Be sure to have a good ice bag at home to reduce swelling and bruising and use it.
