Default I did NOT have surgery today

Hi Everyone! I know I am the last person you would expect to hear from today. I am supposed to be in ICU recovering, right? Ironically, I ended up not having surgery today. I was there. I was ready. I made the 1-1/2 hour trip with my family yesterday afternoon. I went through the entire day yesterday without eating anything -- clear liquids only. I drank the bottle of Magnesium Citrate late in the afternoon. I went to the bathroom all night. I got up at 4:30 this morning, got my shower, and left for the hospital with my husband and daughter at 5:30. I was admitted, prepped, and ready for my IV to be put in. THEN, the rug was pulled out from under me.

My white blood count is very elevated and my chest x-ray showed something suspicious. We do not know what is going on, but it's likely an infection in my body that has not yet presented any physical symptoms. It's bad enough that my surgeon postponed the surgery until we can find out what is going on.

As you can imagine, I was heart broken. You all know the mental and emotional preparation it takes to get to that point -- here I am sitting on a stretcher in my hospital gown ready to be wheeled into the OR and the next minute I am fully dressed and on my way home. I cried and cried and cried. My surgeon was so wonderful. He calmed me down and promised me that once we figured out what the problem is and took care of it he would not make me wait. They will work me into the surgery schedule.

I have an appointment tomorrow with my PCP to see if we can figure out what is going on. I have an appointment for blood work on Friday, as well as a CT scan. I am hoping to be back in the OR the week after next, if all goes well this and next week.

Please continue to send positive thoughts my way and keep me in your prayers. I am doing much better this evening, but it's been a rough day for me emotionally.

Hugs!

I am so sorry!!!! To go through all of that and be stopped in your tracks. Especially the Mag Citrate!!! Oh my, to have to repeat that. But you know what, today wasn't your day and God has a better day for you. Be thankful you have a conscientious surgeon and caught this or you may have had a complicated post op course!! Again, I am sorry you had to experience this today.

I think having to repeat that gosh awful nasty Magnesium Citrate is going to be the worst part They need to remove the part on the label that says "pleasing lemony taste" -- that is a straight out lie!

I know that today was just not my day ... I still just cannot believe it, but I am moving on.

Just remember that them finding it now means that you won't be sicker AFTER the surgery when you are weak. I know it is disappointing! It is will come, and you really do want to be at your healthiest when they put you under.

Sorry to hear about your unfortunte trip and the nonsurgery. Just remember that your body needs to be 110% ready to heal itself, and they have your best interests at heart, but it sure don't feel feel that way right now.

I'm the new kid on the block, and I want to read all about the new you and how well you'll be feeling.

As for the preparation, i have had to use fleet phosphosoda twice within 3 weeks and now again in two weeks. Apple juice helps, water doesn't cut the taste no matter how much water you drink. By that time I didn't want to drink one ounce more liquids than necessary.

I'll say a prayer for you that your health will be 110% ASAP. :-)

That really stinks that it happened. You seem like you are handling it very well, though!
