Default Hi All - NewBee from Missouri Here

Well, I'm excited to say I'm taking the plunge! I've been reading your posts and the more I read, the more I can't wait. I'm going for my pre-op education 5 Jan and will schedule RNY surgery date then.

At almost 48, I've slowed to a near crawl but know that I can regain my energy!!!!

At first, I shared my news with only my two sisters cause I KNEW they'd be supportive. I've not shared with my mom or brothers cause I don't want them to think they need to "help" me. This one is ALL mine. I've since told my 19 yo daughter who has already told me I can't have men to the house!! LOL, like she is my boss or something?

Anyway, just wanted to say HEY and everyone keep blogging away!!!!

Barb (from the Show Me State...and believe me...I'm ready to SHOW them that I can DO it!!!)

Welcome!

The only people who knew I was having the surgery were close friends who I knew I would need for help/support afterwards with kids, etc. My non-immediate family didn't learn of it until 6 months later, when they saw a picture of me and wondered what was up. I figured, "why tell them and have them worry when they were far away and couldn't do anything anyway," or why listen to all the reasons why I shouldn't go through with it.

Keep that positive attitude. It will serve you very well!

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "Wahoo, what a ride."

Welcome to the forum. This is a very private thing, yet our weight loss is so public. It is very hard to keep it from people without lying. I only told my immediate family and super close friends who I knew would be supportive. When it slipped out to my Mother in Law (gee..I wonder who told her)..she had to put in her two nasty cents. I knew I made the right decision and I told her to keep her negative comments to herself and that is why I didn't tell her in the first place. I knew I made the right decision in concealing it from some, but after the fact, they will know. If someone asks, I am being honest. If they don't ask, I don't tell. Again, welcome and good luck on your journey

Dyann,

Yes, it seems like many love to help me with my problem...geez...and have plenty of free advise...my mom still suggests I go on a low fat diet...hmmm what a unique idea. At 48 I'd never think of it...lol...oh well. Like I said, this is mine...and I don't want to share it with them...I've always said that we ALL have issues...mine just show up on the outside...theirs? well, uh...maybe in their hearts...

Again, thanks for your reply!

Hello and welcome aboard.

I didn't tell anyone but my husband and daughter until I had been through everything and had a date set. I would have waited until the end to tell everyone but honestly I needed to talk to my mother and sisters to tell them of my final wishes in case anything should go wrong. I knew that they would give my husband a hard time if he told them after the fact, so I told them at Thanksgiving. As to my in laws they were told a week ago when they wouldn't give up on us coming to their house for Christmas! Finally my husband said.. we will be BUSY Gina is having surgery. There were a few questions, and the day before my surgery my mother in law called to call to me. I must say that I was shocked in that not a SINGLE person tried to talk me out of it. I think I just presented it as a done deal.

Anyway you do what is right for you. This is your rebirth and you get to have the decisions. However do not really recommend a no pain med rebirth!

Good luck to you!
