plastic surgery pictures/information
There are many questions floating around about excess skin and plastic surgery post-op. One of my journals, Contemporary Surgery, this month did an article on plastic surgery after weight loss by J. Peter Rubin, MD of the University of Pittsburgh. I thought the pictures may be informative to those of us on the journey to see what we can expect and to those considering plastics, to see the results. There are two patients highlighted.
The first is a 42 year old woman following a 190 pound weight loss with BMI of 25 and results 8 months following brachioplasty (arm lift) as well as mastopexy (breast lift). The take home message with this procedure is that the patient willing to accept scars in exchange for improved contour is likely to be satisfied with the procedure.
The second picture is a 45 year old woman after 130 pound weight loss with a BMI of 27 and 6 months after mastopexy without impants and abdominoplasty. These are the most common procedures after weight loss.
Hope this adds something to your bag of information

What's the alternative to scars for the bat wings?? I'll take the scars over the weapons -- I'm getting them certified as weapons, 'cause if you're within 3 feet of me and I raise my arm or wave, watch out!!! -- anyday!

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "Wahoo, what a ride."

I don't like the jiggly feeling. I wear control underware...not because they make me look thinner, but the just keep everything where it is supposed to be. I think after weight loss, if it is all loose and jiggly, I will be uncomfortable with that sensation, not for vanity sake (although I may become more vain as I drop some pounds). I think right now I have no vanity and definitely going into the hospital you need to loose all modesty as well. Coming from the person who doesn't like getting undressed in front of my cat, it is difficult.

Great pics! Think I'll keep my wings! I'm not even close to thinking of more surgery!
