Have any of you seen on TV or heard on the radio the FOX 11 ads for the special on WLS, and specifically a "West coast surgeon under investigation for malpractice".

They are calling it "Dying to be thin". That doesn't sound (from just the promos) like the segment they were soliciting for input on the preop forum. In the Los angeles area it's on channel 11 at 10pm. I think it (the ads) comes off extremely negative.

That's the story the contact Lee was telling me, the angle they were using. The conversation between us was fine and professional and all. she asked how much I weight and I told her. So what does she say: and I quote "you don't seem that big."

Okay, first I told her in a nice but firm way to never say that to an obese or formerly obese person, it's an insult to us, that it minimizes our problems. When I put things in perspective for her (giving my height, BMI) she understood better.

That still doesn't give her the right to stand me up after making an appointment to interview me. What a waste of my time. Yes, she had my phone numbers so she could have at least called.

Every year around this time (I know Nov. is over now but I think Ch. 11 may just be behind schedule) all the local affiliate news channels do the stories they think will bring in lots of viewers -- the sensational stuff -- because their ad rates are based on those numbers until the next big SWEEPs month (Feb?) when they come back with more over-exaggerated stories. For some reason, stories about anorexia, bulimia, WLS are always popular for local stations. The stories always seem to be skewed, thus sensationalistic.
