Trouble with Water
Is it normal for 1+ month post-op to still have trouble drinking water? I can take a considerably large drink with literally anything else - juice, tea, lemonade, crystal light, milk, etc.. - but when it comes to water I still have to take small sips or else it really hurts. Is this normal?

Hey Jared.....I'm almost 3 months and water hits me like lead in my tummy. I didn't care much for water pre-op, so I don't worry about it. I also do much better with warm liquids, especially to keep my meds from thunking when they hit. They used to make me feel like I was gonna hurl. I use crystal light, hot cocoa, ice tea, diet snapple, and milk basically. As long as there is no caffeine your body uses them the same as water. Maybe with time yours will get better if you miss water, but so far mine hasn't changed. It'll be time to try it again here soon. Good luck, you are doing fantastic!

Water hits my stomach like a bomb
Jared,
I loved water pre-wls, really miss chugging a bottle of it, but now it hurts the second it hits my stomach. I drink iced tea instead. So no, I guess it's not completely unusual.

Water was funky for me post-op.... until I was about 2 months out. I wouldn't worry too much about it. But do keep drinking it! It made me sick to my tummy, but I drank it anyway. It helped just knowing that it will get better with a little more time.

Bottled water does something to me -- so I like to have ice water and just sip on it. Also, at first, if the water was real cold it bothered me.
But now, I just give it a little flavor (can't take too much sweetness -- blech) and sip away.
Hope it gets better, Jared.

Like you i dont like a lot of sweetness in my water, did'nt pre-op either. So i just add a tiny bit of Chrystal light, just enough to give it some flavor. I have a hard time drinking my water periodically. Depends on the week or month. But i still try to get er down.

I couldn't do water until about 3 months post op. I tried everything from tap water, bottled water, flavored water, and well water. The second it it my pouch, I got a strange pain that last 10-20 seconds. I do water now just fine, and I am able to take a normal drink, no more sipping.

I was a water drinker pre-op. Fact all I drank was water. I am now 5 1/2 months post-op and I still can't drink water without cramping. I really miss drinking water.
I wonder why so many of us are having trouble with water.

I know that something about water compostition can be actually hard on the stomach. I had always heard not to drink water if you are sick or have a touchy tummy. I can not understand how a little flavor would change it's composition, but my pouch (Joey) assures me it does! I wonder if it gets better for all or most post-ops? I am almost 3 months now, but I'm ok without plain water. As I said, was only a big fan of it sometimes in the summer.
