Our eating habits
Ive been reading these posts lately and really thinking about them.I keep reading about people dreading the fact they THINK they cant have soda's,sweets ect...after WLS.Then about Big Mac's w/protein... We all have our certain reasons why we had or want to have WLS.I also understand you shouldnt deprive ourselves of a treat once in a while within moderation.
But are you serious...didnt most of us have this surgery to control our eating habits, make ourself healthier & to lose weight????(permenantly)
I know for me the weight is coming off but WLS hasnt changed my head.I have!
I am 31yrs old. I had 31yrs to eat all the crap I wanted, thats why I was morbidly obese.I know have the rest of my life to eat to live and to eat foods that are high in nutritional value.
Im sorry for my rambling,I had to vent.........

Good point Julia...you are exactly right. With MO's, we are unable to control how much we eat, and our sttitude it is unhealthy. Aftger such drastic measures (surgery), either our head will stop us from eating yucky/fattening stuff due to what you went though with surgery, or our puches will scream at us. It is only a tool...

My eating habits have totally changed after WLS. I eat under 800 cal, under 20 fat and over 60 protein. I have never been this good about what I eat. I hope it stays this way. I write down everything that goes in my mouth and I really do make good choices. I have had one or two times when I had something not on the list but really if I totally deprive myself I know it will lead to bad eating habits. Even when I do eat something "not on the list" it still isn't even that bad, maybe 10 grams of fat or 300 cal which is a splurge for a meal for me. I added up my totals for the weeks last night (cal, fat stuff like that) and now after WLS I eat in a week what I used to eat in a day!

Preach On
Hey Julia!
You are so right on! I'm glad someone else feels the way I do. I feel people think I'm an annoying, grouchy old lady sometimes, always preaching. But it's because I care.
You're right that we should have had this surgery to change our lives forever. I believe that constantly thinking about how to sidestep or sabotage the tool is not the most productive way to approach this surgery.
There are post-ops who do what they want, and that's okay...to each his own. I just hope that I can express myself so that some of the pre-ops and newbies will realize how critical eating and lifestyle changes can be and how much these changes can positively influence the journey.
You've done a fantastic job. Keep up the great work. Thanks for bringing it up and...I GET IT.

Great reminder, specially when I behaved bad this weekend, I guess it is harder for the young people like me to get how important it is to take care of our tool.

I am NOT going back to the bad habits.
I',m looking forward to eating when I'm hungry, not eating when
not hungry and my interactions with my friends not being
centered around food.
I have a couple of buddies, every 5 - 6 weeks when we can manage
the same day off, we'd meet for beer and steaks and a bs session.
They were concerned that I wouldn't be showing up. I explained
that I wasn't showing up for the beer and steaks but for the bs
session and to hang with friends I don't get to see often.
At the same restaurant, I can get a nice chicken salad and ice tea,
no biggie.
Biggest hassle for me will be family (eat, eat). Even when they
tease me about my weight, they keep trying to get me to eat
more, big pain in the tush.
Am looking forward to learning how to cook healthy, will help
out my wife (who is already dropping weight on her own). I've
always been the house chef anyway.
Rant complete.
Thanks.

You are right! But we all fall off the wagon occasionally! I do my best to eat good 99% of the time. I just don't have the desire to eat the same stuff I did before except once in awhile then I try it and either feel like crap or it doesn't taste the same. I have been trying lately to introduce more carbs into my diet because I'm ready to be done losing (my body says no but I think it's time). However, I really messed that up last night and didn't even think twice about it. I had corned beef, kraut, and swiss melted together (breadless reuben) and about 1/3 cup of Potato Soup. I went back to work and couldn't hardly keep my eyes open. I went into a carb coma! bad soup, bad, bad! Actually, it's more like bad stapler, bad, bad!

I think most of us come here for help & support. Like we've all said, we have a hard time getting in the right mind-set about food. We still want the stuff that's bad for us... and we come here to fight it... or be forgiven for it. We just want support.
I just love this bunch of people!
