Question About Food
A lot of people list what they can and are eating right after their surgery. My question is... How often are you supposed to eat..or drink the broth? Do you have like an oz. every hour, or just for breakfast..lunch and dinner?

Good question. I'd like to know as well. Do you just keep water, protein drinks, jerky, etc.....with you all day? Eat something small every 4-5 hours? Do tell!

My nut. asked us to establish set meal times in order to avoid grazing. The broth, crystal light, popsicles WERE our meals. Supposed to drink water in between.

Diet
The farther out I get post-op, the less I remember details during the first few weeks. I seem to remember taking in a lot of clear fluids, basically whenever I could. After I started soft mushy foods, I tried to stick to three meals a day with fluids in between. It was much later that Kelly told us we could have five small meals a day rather than three.

I had it really easy, so I'm not so sure it is typical (in fact, I know it's not). But, I had 1/4 C lentil soup 3 times a day, 2 protein drinks w/ff milk in between the "meals" and 6 oz. of yogurt at bedtime. I did this for 6 wks. I just didn't want to worry about "what" to eat. So, I found somethings that went down well, that were satisfying and that I liked. For most it would probably be kind of boring, but it worked for me.

In the beginning hydration is much more important then caloric intake. Because you eat/drink so slowly, it takes forever to finish a very small amount, so basically, you are drinking all day long. For me, there was no real breakfast lunch or dinner. It was just hydration all day. I honestly think that has saved me so much. Even now hydration is super important to me. That first week ....
Chicken broth
Ice
Chicken broth
Sugar free popsicle
Ice
Tea
Water
Beef broth
Sugar free jello
Crystal Light
The amounts were minimal, except the ice, which was pretty much a constant. Hope this helps!
