Default Calories and fat

What amount of calories and fat should I be consuming a day? I am a little over six months out. I am actually starting to feel a bit hungery for the first time since surgery. I keep hitting bad plateau's that last for 4 weeks, then I lose a few pounds for a week then back to a new plateau. Maybe I am eating too much?

This is what I have eaten alreay today, it is 2:00pm my time.

Breakfast:
string cheese- 80 cal, 5 gram fat, 1 gram carb, 8 gram pro
yogart- 110 cal, 0 gram fat, 20 gram carb, 6 gram pro

Lunch:
slice swiss cheese- 100 cal, 8 gram fat, 1 gram carb, 8 gram pro
6 thin sliced Oscar Meyer ham- 50 cal, 1 gram fat, 2 carb, 9 pro

Sub totals for today:
370 cal, 14 gram fat, 26 gram carbs, 31 gram pro

Dinner will be:
3 oz t-bone steak- 255 cal, 18 fat, 0 carb, 25 pro
small salad w/ cheese-100 cal, 2 fat, 4carb, 5 pro

that will bring me to:
725 cal, 34 fat, 30 carb, 61 pro

Don't know what I am doing wrong. I still have about 100 pounds to lose, so I'm not near goal at all.

Smile Hey Megan

Try this link, you can out in your current stats and then it will tell you how many calories you should be taking in to maintain your current weight. There is alot of good information on this site! Perhaps it could be useful to you too!

As far as fat intake, just use the Food Pyramid as your guide, and choose the "good" fats! Best wishes darlin'!

That's a really good site. I saved it to my favorites. But it said I can eat 2285 calories a day and lose 1 pound a week, 1785 and lose 2 pounds, 1285 nd lose 3 pounds.....

I know I eat way less then 1285, so where's the pounds??? lol

I know the first 6mo the weight falls off. Then after that it takes a bit more effort to lose it, for some.My suggestion to you is take measurments. If the scale isnt moving I bet the inches are.I didnt lose not 1lbs in close to 3mo but I lost over 20in so even thought the scale isnt moving your not in a plateau. I know it gets frusterating seeing the weighloss slow down, but you will lose it just at a slower pace now,I guess your body has to catch up.
So ditch the scale, take measurments monthly and it will come off...
As far as calories I really dont count them much.I just try to stick to protein first, veggies & the rest.I try to 5 mini meals a day.
Hope that helps, believe me I know what your going through.

I lost a ton of weight (lol seemed like a ton!!) the first 4 months, about 60lbs! It was amazing, then it really started tapering off, and now it is very very slow. I eat pretty much what I want now though. So I am not really on a "diet" per se'. I can't eat more than about 1/2 cup of food at one sitting so I just eat what I want. The thing I am finding with the slower weight loss is my skin is shrinking with me. I am not hanging with flabby skin, it is shrinking in very slowly. I am happy if I continue to lose a lb or 2 every month for the next few years. If I go slow I may not have to go through the skin, tummy tucking thing. For me I have finally found a happy medium with eating, I am not ever starved, I eat what I want pretty much, and I am losing but very slowly.

I will say I am not a big sweet eater, or a fried food, or junk food eater as a general rule, so I am not craving that stuff too much. But if I am in the mood I will have some. I can usually eat about 1/2 a small bag of fries for instance with catsup, but no burger. Or 3/4 of a fried chicken thigh, and a few bites of coleslaw. For sweets I have found those cool liitle new ice creams called "Dibbs". They are great for WLS people! They are about the size of your thumbnail. They are ice cream bon bons, and they come in chocolate and mint, chocolate and vanilla, chocolate and chocolate, and chocolate crunch and vanilla. I can eat about 4 or 5 of these little guys and be perfectly satisfied!

As for stuff like hamburgers, I can eat about 1/4 of a small hamburger, if I chew it slowly and swallow slowly, and take time between bites. Pizza I can eat about 1/2 a slice, or the whole slice if I leave the bread. I am just bringing these things up because, it is real life. Eventually, you have to go back to living real life, and have some "bad" foods every once in a while. It's perfectly OK, but you have to watch the porportions, how fast you eat, how much and long you chew, it makes a huge difference.

I don't count calories or fat. Just protein. Well, I try with the protein! it has been a struggle for me since day 1! Just use common sense. Watch out for fried stuff and sugar. I dump pretty bad so I'm pretty cautious about whe nit comes to no, low, or reduced fat stuff. When they take the fat out they put the sugar in! I usually use which ever version has less sugar in it. Most importantly try not to stress over it. You know what to do-Protein first, veggies next, everything else after that!

Seems that maybe it is your fat intake. I know my doc said 20 grams and under. Try low fat cheese to replace your lunch and BF cheese. I eat string cheese that is only 2.5 grams of fat. That would save you 8 fat grams, bringing you down to 26. Maybe fish and not a t-bone. You could havine big savings there. Just a thought

Good Luck.

It is not just quantity, but quality. 42% of your calories are from fat, and not the good kind (fish oils, nuts etc). I think counting the protein only works when you are losing. If you are plateauing and there are no inches being lost, then the next thing to do is count the fats. Making the simple switch to low fat cheese will take you down to less than 30% of your calories from fat. You may actually be able to increase your calories and protein with the reduction in fat and still lose weight.
I always knew what needed to be done on a diet, but was never able to follow it. Much better of an advice giver than following the diet. I guess that is why I need gbs as a tool to help me change that.
Good Luck
