Default Have a 6 to maybe 14 mo's wait..

Called St.Louis today and they said that I have to go through a weight reduction program that will be from 6 to 14 mo's...also proof that I have been on it....and referral from my primary phyisician....and also to call my insurance carrier to see if I meet the criterial....which I know I do but have to meet theirs....I'm so depressed about this...It seems any road I take has a fork in it....I know many has waited a long time for their surgeries...But, I dont understand this at all....especially when it is dire need...why do we have to wait so long to be accepted when it can actually save our lifes?....I just dont get it....and it totally doesnt make a lick of sense...The other doctor that I called . which is close to me too. isnt answering the phone....figures huh...I have called two(2) days now.Maybe god knows best for me and maybe I will try one of those long ,boring weight lost programs....and taking diet pills...this is my only options it seems at this point....I wont give up...will patiently sit back and see what becomes of it. if anything at all....

Cams,

Sorry to hear there's a wait for you. But . . . use this time to get yourself ready for the surgery. Read all you can find, etc. Several folks on here are in the same boat you're in, and it's not any fun having to wait. Especially once you've made up your mind to have surgery. Hang out with us, and we'll be here for you! Take care.

Hey Cams. My fiance is from St. Louis. Here is a big ((hug)) sweety because I know all to well what that feeling of having to start from the bottom. You have to look at it like them 6 months will come and go. There is a lot of pre-op stuff you could get under your belt while you are going through this process. Have you been on previous diets before? If so does your PCP have documentation of it? Sit down with your PCP and ask if he/she can write a letter in your behalf statting your previous attempts to lose weight. Hey it couldn't hurt to try. I wish you the best. Keep your head up. God does everything for a reason. He leads us down roads we don't understand to get us to our Destiny.

Cams....yes its important for you to have 6 months+ of documented weight loss program via your doctor. In Canada our wait is 3 years for the consult and then schedule surgery for up to 12 months after that. My doctor was required to send a letter and then complete a 4 page questionairre from the specialist on my history of weight issues and comorbidities. I also have some say in what goes on the form. I struggled with the wait too, angry at first and now I am going to take this time to reflect my reasons for surgery, practice eating slow, making good food choices, continue to exersise and learn all I can from the wonderful supportive people here at ThinnerTimes. Hang in there and good luck with you pre-op.

I feel bad. I'm upset about the whole six month documentation thing, and here you are talking about waiting for years. I'm upset about the 6 month program because I can't afford to pay my bills let alone someone else to tell what and how much I can eat.
