Smile Did you all experience this

OK....I am hoping to schedule my surgery for the week after thanksgiving. Ever since I have comitted to do this I have been on a GBP rollercoaster emotionally. There are times when I am excited about the healthy, more agile, more vibrant me to come and then.....BAMMMM....I get petrified of the dangers of the surgery. I am not concerned about the life changes after...just the medical risk aspect of the procedure itself.
Did you all experience that before your surgeries?? And if so, how do you keep the stress down from the crazy ride??

Default Drugs baby drugs

Ok I'm kidding about the drugs.. I put it out of my mind while I waited the 30 days for my surgery. I ate, ate, and ate more LOL... I don't know what to tell you other than you are gonna have to get busy involved with something and keep your mind focused on other things. Suzy

I went on the rollorcoaster ride also. I also had my surgery the week of Thanksgiving. I got out of the hopital on Thanksgiving 2 yrs. ago and last year on my 1 yr. anniversary I had to cook an entire Thanksgiving Dinner for my family.

I am going through the same thing with the fears of risks --even death. Just as I was beginning to psych myself up that everything is going to be fine, I got word this evening of a girl dying this week a day following her surgery. Then the fear sets right back in.

Each case is different. It has just as much to do with your Doctor as it does with you. Just today I heard of a girl almost dying because she ate a raw carrot 2 days post-op. I mean come on did she not do her homework!!!

As long as you picked the best Doctor with good mortality rates(and a good amount of WLS done), and you follow the rules I think it should be fine. More people die from MO problems than people do from gastric bypass.....

You are more at risk of dying if you don't do it than if you do..........

Thank you, Holly ... and you are right. I am at one of those times when I need reinforcement. With the severity of my diabetes, I am facing losing my vision, losing a limb (or more than one), kidney failure, heart failure, just to mention a few things. I am living on borrowed time the way I am going now. Each day is a struggle for me. I think whenever we hear someone experiencing the worst, it just stirs up the old emotions.

See you have no choice but to do it. Do you have any idea how much better your life will be when you don't have to deal with all that illness?

Belive me I was scared too, but then I thought about it. When you find the right Doctor you will be at peace with your WLS battle, and with yourself.

Your life is only going to get better!!!

I know how you feel. One moment I am crying because I am happy then I am crying becase I am scared to death. Not of dying but of the change in me. This is a major turning point in anyones life that shouldn't be taken lightly. Like I was telling Karen most of us can't afford not to have WLS. We are more at risk if we stay big than if we go for it and have WLS done!!!

It will be fine. Just inform yourself of everything that can happen good and bad. Read every post on this forum until you are over loaded with info. I was on here for like 3 days straight when I first found it. It made me feel so much better talking and meeting with these people. I now know what to expect and go in with my eyes wide open and the support of all of them. It really will make you feel better. Good luck and just know we are all here to support you!

Default I am welling up

Holly....you hit the nail on the head....Everything you said is true. My family asked what they can do for me and I think reassurance is what helps and this forum is a great place to find it. Chances are on my side of doing well.
Thanks for the encouragement. It really means the world. My family is supportive of my decision but they really do not understand the anxiety of it.
You are a GEM
