Angry Just @#$* Wonderful!

My PCP's office called today with what they consider good news. My HMO has approved me for their "Weight Management Program"...Optifast....A 26 wk, medically suervised liquid diet! *ROLLING EYES!* What joy! I get to work with a physician, dietitian and psychotherapst and learn "desired componerts of nutrition, exercise and emotional well being into the daily life."

I've got my boxing gloves on and I have my list ready.

When I see him this Friday he is going to be handed a list of Medically supervised diet programs I have paid for and attended for the last 15 yrs.

I'm putting my foot down. No more YO-YO Diet Training!

The same thing happened to me.... I'd been dieting for 42 years, and had plenty of proof, my medical group approved me to go to the Sharp Weight Management Program too, but first denied the surgery, so, I went to my PCP and told him I REFUSED to go on another diet that I knew would NOT work. He wrote a letter that day and faxed it to SCMG, they overturned their denial THAT DAY.... The rest is history, well, the rest is just the beginning... I'm now 15 days out from surgery and doing fantastic!!!
Good luck, I'm sorry, I don't see your name, but, I wish you the best of luck, you're gonna get there!!!! *thumbs up* Hang tight!!!

Default It's nice to know I'm not alone.

Thanks so much for sharing with me. I don't feel like I'm facing down the medical community alone.

Right now I am feeling so frustrated. I have been on five medically supervised diets.

Of couse each diet had sucessful weight loss but the drugs prescribed either stopped working after a few weeks or I had complications from them and the weight bounded right back and then some.

I can't see submitting my body to another yo-yo diet. I won't do it.

I'll sure be thinking of you Friday, and before hand, praying that when you see your doctor, he/she will be open to what you're saying, and be willing to write a letter for you, they can't keep treating obese people with yo-yo diets, we ALL know, they don't work!!!!!
You're in my thoughts and prayers!!!!

Peckkale, Go pirate on your HMO. Get a swashbucklers outfit and storm into their office and demand that they hand over their booty.

Take no prisoners.

Seriously, Sorry to hear about that your HMO is just putting you through the paces. Don't back down, they will cave eventually.

Appeal their request for you to do another "diet". Fight it! Show them proof of your doctor's supervised "diets" in the past. It's just another "stall" tactic. They'll hope that you give up so that they won't have to pay for a surgery. Besides, those who fight back and persovere shows how serious you are about getting this surgery.

I think I got lucky. When I started this process they told me they wouldn't even consider people who hadn't done the 6 months supervised diet. So like a good patient I nodded and signed up. I went to my first class, they started going on about the program and the seing the doctor once a week and all the other stuff you have to do, I quietly raised my hand and said 'What if you travel for work 50 to 60 % of the time?' and they said 'BYE-BYE!' 'Nuf said, no one ever said anything about diet programs again!! Sometimes I just LOVE my job!!

Smile Liquid diet help

If you have been on diet after diet after diet, this just seems like a bunch garbage to make you go through that again.... you can get through this. I was talking to Stuart and he hired an attorney through obesity law to help him and it worked. You may want to consider this, send Stuart a private message Im sure he will be more than happy to give you all the details! The squeaky wheel gets the greasse girlfriend, you DONT have to put up with their crap if you dont CHOOSE to...... good luck. Keep us posted on your success, trial and tribulations with your HMO.
