when is it ok to make travel plans?
From personal experiences, how soon is too soon to make plans to travel after surgery? I will be having the surgery on Oct. 25th, and a friend and I were going to start making plans to go to Vegas around the 2nd or 3rd week in December. Giving me roughly 6-7 weeks to recover. Is this too soon? Or should I be ok by then? I understand everyone's recovery times differ, but if you all could give me a general idea, that'd be great. Thanks!

I would suggest you wait 2 weeks. Im no credentialed medical professional but make sure you do consult one... and then let me know if I was right!
If you are going to be traveling anytime after surgery for up to 6 months make sure you take frequent walks or stretches or bounce your legs around in the car. You do not want to impeed blood circulation, so please keep that in mind. Clots are a serious threat up to 6 months after surgery!

I'm planning a road trip to Texas after my surgery, so I asked my doctor. He said no sooner then 4 weeks for a trip like that. And if you're driving, like Bridget said, get out of the car every few hours and walk around and stretch.

travel plans
I was told not to fly the first month after surgery, something about blood clots. So, I waited 2 weeks and took the train to my moms house. Wow, that was a misable 600 miles! I was grumpy and sore , I should have waited a couple of weeks more before traveling. I think everyone reacts different to surgery and its just something you can't predict.

I am leaving for California a week from Sunday........I'll be 2 1/2 weeks out. I didn't ask my doc because I am going either way and don't want to piss him off by asking if his answer doesn't matter! I am planning to follow all diet restrictions, do all my walking on the plane, etc.........and I'll bring my cell for any questions I have and I'll call Ohio all I need. I feel really energetic already, so am not worried about that. I just want to be extra sure about blood clots.
