Three days out
So I had my surgery on Monday morning, about 11:00 am. I did not realize how much it would hurt. The nurses and dr all say that I'm doing great and exceeding expectations for walking, breathing, etc...Its hard, but even harder when I go home to the kids, and they all want to climb on me and what not. I will take it day by day and move right along. The staff here for the most part have been excellent, with a few exceptions. ICU nurse Tera was GREAT.

It does get better!!! Hang in there. As far as the kids.....kids are funny. My daughter just "knew" I didn't feel well. She's only 4 so I didn't say "surgery" didn't want to scare her....told her I had my "tummy fixed." She was SO good for me when I wasn't feeling good. (I'm a single mom.....the ex was suppose to keep her for a week and decided after two days he was done. )
Just hang in there...I promise it DOES get better!!! Monday was 2 weeks for me and I'm feeling HUMAN again!

I feel a little better. Run down mostly. I have this one incision that hurts when gravity changes. Other than that, I'm doing okay. Thanks for the heads up that it gets better!

I'm glad to hear you're improving but yeah - it can take a little while.
Rest when you can and have a nap if you feel you need one.

I had my surgery on Tuesday and I totally understand what you mean about the pain. I have not been able to stand or sit without being in so much pain. I was told that my first words when I was in recovery was "What did I do to myself?" But I can't complain now cuz my diabetes has been under control, that the DR. took me off of all my insulin which is a big step considering my readings for the past year were always between 400-600. I am having trouble drinking the amount of fluids required. Today I went walking quite a bit but at the end was in so much pain. The biggest problem I am having is the hiccups and that really does hurt. Does anyone know what can be done for this or why am I getting them so much. All in all even though the pain is unbearable I am enjoying seeing the pounds drop off. I am so happy to be on the losers bench.

I haven't even thought to weigh myself. I wonder how long before I start getting an accurate reading. I'm confused on how much to drink. The nutritionist said I should be okay until I first feel that full feeling, then stop, but I'm so scared about being sick. I just know it will hurt, that I am barely drinking. Any advice.

Count your swallows
Liquid was one of the hardest things for me, but I found that if I would count my swallows, I could keep from putting more in my pouch than I could handle. No more than two swallows the first week or two, and then up to three after that. You need to hydrate, and stay that way, dehydration will make you feel even worse while you're healing up, as well as being the first thing that will land you back in the hospital, so constantly sip, sip between meals... all the time!

I had the hiccups awful too...for about 2 weeks. And with incisions, and the extra gas in your stomach from the surgery..yes it hurt. With me, I always take in air when I drink or eat (which causes hiccups)...try to exhale before you sip.
I hope you both feel better soon.
