Finally below 200!! Returnining NEWBIE, Hair Loss inquiry...
I'm not quite a newbie, but almost...I am returning from being away from here for too long. The support and information I have gained in the past is invaluable and I appreciate all of you who post here. Myself, I have had such great success with the gastric bypass surgery, which was on 6/29/09. From my highest weight, 314, to my current, 197, I am down a surprising 117 pounds. My greatest achievement is that I am below 200 pounds, a number I have not seen in about 15 years. The process is working the way it should be, not easy, but not as hard as carrying around all the extra weight...not to mention all of the activities I was deprived of doing before the weight loss. I just got back from a vacation in San Diego, California...Wow!! I could walk, climb, shop, swim and join in all of the touristy type of things I could never enojoy when I was over 300 pounds.
I am back to ThinnerTimes because I am concerned about HAIR LOSS. My once thick hair looks balding now. I take all of the recommended supplements and I eat right, but I am looking for support and info.
Also, I don't know how to post my pictures on this site, I would like to share before and after and happy pictures, etc.
Thank you in advance to all who reply.

Welcome back!! I too couldn't be happier with the way things have gone. Its slower now and that's a little depressing. I started at 284 and now weight 180! I feel so awesome and totally know what you mean about getting out there and enjoying life now. My kids are so happy with me these days. It feels amazing!!
As far as the hair loss goes, mine lasted for awhile and I was really starting to freak out at how thin it was getting but then it just stopped. Its been months since I've lost any and its really starting to grow back. I take a hair and nail vitamin everyday along with all of my others so maybe you should check into that.
You are about as far out as I am. What and how much are you eating on a typical day? Tina

Definitely make sure are getting in your protein requirements! Getting a low amount of protein CAN cause hair loss; of course, there are other possibilities too. If you feel you are getting all the minimum requirements in (ie vitamins, proteins, H20) then contact your surgeon/doctor and ask their opinion.
Good luck and keep us posted! And a major congrats on the weight loss and all the new opportunities that are available now that you've lose weight.

Hi, Tina,
Was your surgery in '08 or' 09...I am 8 months out, the hair loss started at three months out and has continued currently. I am hoping the hair will stop coming out and start growing soon.
I get my proteins, water and supplements in. I can eat about 7-8 ounces of solids and about 10 ounces of "soupy" type foods in. I like to have a yogurt every day, and of course, my fruit and veggies. Sometimes I get bored with it all, but I try to remember what I learned in the pre-op training which is to not focus on the food itself, just eat because I need to. That seems to keep me in check.

My surgery was in 09...and the hair loss started at about 3 or 4 months out also but has totally stopped and is growing back. It's a freaky thing, losing your hair isn't it? Hopefully it stops soon for you. It sounds like you're doing really well with your eating and what not. I notice around my time of the month I want junk but other than that I'm pretty good with everything.

Hi, Tina,
I'm doing pretty good with the daily regimen of food, water, supplements, etc.
I have read some of the previous threads and some of the advice you have all given me and I am going to purchase some vitamins that will help target the hair loss, hopefully this will help. I wonder if the body just goes into shock or something? Then, when it realizes it will still be nourished it gives some attention back to the hair? Who knows, I am encouraged by all of you that have gone through this and have reported a nice comeback.
