Question about calories- 1000-1200 before or after exercise?
I've been told that I should be having between 1000-1200 each day. What if I burn 600 calories each day by walking? Would my net caloric intake be 400-600 per day, or do I need to up my calories? 400-600 per day seems awfully low. Thanks.

How are you burning 600 calories a day by walking? Just curious how long you have to walk.

Brutus - this recent thread answers your question: Calorie deficit...I should know this by now!
Yvette - I walk an hour a day with the dogs at a very brisk pace. Factoring in my weight, that burns approximately 250 calories. The heavier you are, the more calories you're going to burn.
Check out this calculator: Calories Burned, BMI, BMR & RMR Calculator | CaloriesPerHour.com

With just 20lb to goal, you'll have to work a lot harder than you did when you first started out.
Straight out of surgery, 30 minutes strolling with the dogs burned around 180 calories.
At 110lb, that same 30 minutes, with the same dogs (lol) burns a pitiful 75 calories!

I walked almost 2 miles this morning, and I plan to do the same again this evening. According to what I found online, walking for 40 minutes at that distance, burns approximately 260 calories, twice a day = over 500 calories. When I run/walk on the treadmill for an hour, I burn over 500 calories. As I work through what may/may not be a stall, I'm increasing the exercise to burn over 500 calories a day, at least 4-5 times a week.

Thanks...based on the links Corinne posted (thanks!), it looks like we should have a net calorie consumption of 1000-1200/day. Guess I'm not getting enough calories in...
