Red face A reason I eat.......

I thought I'd share this and see if I am the only one who does this:

When I make myself something to eat, my kids (4 of them) always want some. I feel like I never get to eat my portion so I always end up getting or making more even though I probably only shared a few bites or so.

I finish what they don't.

Then, of course, I eat for emotional reasons, as rewards, to relax and to celebrate.

Why do you eat?

Default I ate for .........

Hi I will add to this thread. I ate because I was happy, depressed, sad, or just bored.

I would often eat to calm anxiety. Even knowing the reasons or emotions I ate over I still couldn't get a handle on it. This surgery has helped me so much with the issues.

When I find myself with anxiety I will exercise, when I am happy depressed, sad or plain bored I'll find something else to do than eat. Like clean something, play with my dogs, go for a swim, call a friend.. or whatever I can think of.. sometimes I'll even go for a ride in the car with some music and that helps.

I don't eat when I am sad or depressed. I eat when I am bored or worse yet when I have no money. I don't know why, maybe it's because I grew up on the poor side of life. Every time we are running low on funds (which is more often than not) I panic. I HAVE to eat out. Even if it is a fast food $.99 something or other. I only recently had this realization.

Well, I never had the problem with having to share food and then go get more b/c I only have one child who doesn't even like to eat much.
But, like Suzy, I would eat because I was sad, depressed, happy, but most of the time it was to calm anxiety. I spent a lot of time thinking about food before surgery. Although not as much, I still do, but at least I am satisfied now with a tiny amount.

But you want to know something? I am still battling the use of food for comfort after surgery. I try really hard not too, but I have done it twice. The first time I had a few cheetos when I got into a big fight with my husband. I then threw the cheetos away (they were in the house b/c of my son begging for them at the store and I gave in to him) when I realized what I was doing.
The second time was last night. I had to take an algebra test online for my class last night and I was so anxious about it, and I absentmindedly ate Lay's Sour Cream and Onion potato chips throughout the whole test. I know it is bad, I threw the chips away today. It is just so easy to eat them. This is something I am trying to work on.

Does anybody else have the problem of still using food for comfort sometimes after surgery?

In maintenance... now I'm yo-yoing up and down 10 lbs or so. I'm trying to find out how to stay at a set weight, it's rough.

My eating is money related too. I am trying to dig our family out of debt and I used to shop to keep busy. I shopped alot and bought a little but knowing there will be no "high" of buying after shopping and finding some really great deal kind of defeats the purpose so I don't go.

I was in specialised eating disorder treatment for 3 months trying to deal with the "why". Now I am accutely aware of WHY I do it but all the things to alter the behavior just aren't fitting into place. I am really limited in what I do because i have a really hectic and tight schedule with 4 kids. It's not an excuse........now if i had the $$ for a sitter it would just be an excuse but at this point in my life I just don't have the means to take off for a ride (Hello? Gas prices?) or run to the gym. Even going for a walk isn't possible until early evening with the weather and my kids crazy schedules. I love walking too.

I used to eat out of boredom and just because it tastes good. I have never been an emotional eater so I cannot relate to that. I think I have an oral fixation where I always need something in my mouth, haha.

I eat all the wrong things out of laziness most of the time. I work long hours and am exhausted by the end of the day. So I tend to stop off at fast food restaurants, eat processed foods or just snack thru the evening without eating anything healthy.

My big weight gain came a few years ago when I got Bell's Palsy. My whole face was paralyzed, coz I got it in both sides and I ended up staying home from work for 6 months. Also didn't go out alot because I was mortified at how I looked. AND THEN at the same time I quit smoking becuz my mouth couldn't suck the ciggys anymore.. sooooo i ended up gaining like a 100 pounds over the course of a year or so .. oY!

I was around 250 or so when all that happened and things just snowballed after that. I was a mess. By this time I was way to fat to do much exercising and so it became very hard to lose it.

So things are looking up now.. I have an obsessive personality by nature so I am trying to replace the obsessive eating with obsessive excerise (it's gonna be something.. hehe)

This is a great thread QueenB!

Hi dollface.... I eat when I'm bored. Or when I'm on a "diet". Period. If I stay busy I don't eat at all. Also not good because when I finally slow down enough to realize I'm hungry, I gorge. I know now, I got fat on purpose. I didn't want to be the "hot chick" I didn't like the attention. You can understand more about that on my story thread. I also snack when cooking.... that makes NO sense. I'll be making dinner, and have to snack on fritos or something stupid. Hey I just realized I'm hungry and missed breakfast....
