Default Ok, no band, but RNY vs. DS

Ok, I decided definitely no band. I just want to succeed. Anyway, I have been doing more research and the DS sounds like a win, win. Can any won tell my really what the negatives are? It seems on OBH message board for DS that they think this is the greatest thing ever. Sounds good, hard to find a surgeon and I am not sure I am really hearing the true negatives. Anyone have any insight?

Thanks again, I am just trying to make the best decision for me.

Mostly what I read about DS is that they have a lot of issues with loose stools and bad gas. This is what I got from all the posts on OH. They need to get in a lot more protein as they have had a lot of their intestines by-passed.
As far as they RNY it is considered the Gold Standard that is enough for me

Hi,
I considered DS for a long time. My best friend had it and I even went to some support meetings. The gas and loose bowels are a real problem. Even though my friend is 7 month out and takes lactaid and other remedies, she still has a hard time. But, what finally made me decide to have the RNY was that she was able to eat too much. It was too easy for her to get off her eating program and she still binged. She depends too much on the malabsorbtion. Now, she is starting to gain and reaching her goal weight is looking harder. On the other hand, at the support meetings I saw people that were very, very thin. In fact, in two cases the Dr. was going to go in and reattach their instestines so that there would not be as much malabsorbtion.
However, she still feels she made the right decision.
I had my RNY three and 1/2 weeks ago and I'm happy with my decision, too.

Research and then research some more. You'll figure out what is best for you.

Best of everything,

Martha

okay here are some very intersting things about DS

So what's a DS?

and the ever controversial... man was this one fun!
Why Will I STINK?!?!?

You wont find many banders or those who did DS here on this board.. just GBP losers and soon to be losers!
