Default Pychological Appointment questions

Hello Everyone,

I am new to this site and I have to say that this site is great. Lots of info and helpful people. Thanks.

I am a little nervous about the psychological testing. I have never been to a psychologist and don't quite know what to expect. The doctor said the appointment consisted of a one hour psychological evaluation and two hours of psychological testing. This has me really nervous. Can someone let me know what to expect?? Thanks

Jim

Hi Jim and welcome. I'm your neighbor about 45 min north. My psych evaluation was just an hour with the counselor. Not sure what testing they are talking about. The evaluatoin was mainly to see if you understood about the surgery and had the right kinda of attitude about why you were having it. Wasn't that big of a deal.
Are you having your surgery done at Sansum in SB? A teacher I work with just had it done there 4 weeks ago.

Hi Jim! Welcome! Don't sweat the psych stuff. They are mostly looking to weed out people with severe problems - ones that don't really understand the surgery, who are so depressed they might not handle the lifestyle changes real well, etc. Good luck.

The worst part about it was the $200. he charged me that wasn't covered by my insurance. Discussed the surgery, then took a psyc. eval. found out that I'm pretty stressed (he said that's understandable because of the things going on in my life), and that I have a slight case of agoriphobia-but he approved for the surgery. It's not so bad.

Just got back from mine today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Deep breath. I was scared but it was an easy conversation. I filled out paperwork in regards to my life and substance use and he went over all of it and asked a lot of questions about the surgery. What did I think they would do ? What complications may occur? What would be different in regards to eating after surgery? Why was I interested in surgery? Most questions about the surgery were just to make sure I was educated on what was going to happen. Lasted about 30 min. I'm glad that part is over.

I just told my shrink that I knew what I was getting into. I had researched the surgery and it was the only thing I could do for myself to get my health back at this point. Told him I binge, and that I know it will have to stop once surgery is here. He dictated it while I was sitting in his office. And it was over.. done and I had my eval. Suzy
