Default Exercise!

Hey all!

Now that my shingles are finally healing up, I can start getting back to the gym (again). This started me to thinking again (which, by the way, my wife says is dangerous!)

We are told all the time that exercise is an integral part of our health, and that we need at least 30 minutes of exercise 2 to 3 times a week. While I agree with this, I have to admit that being MO, it's not exactly easy. Most times the spirit is more than willing, but the flesh is not just weak - it's exhausted!

With that said, what experiences did you have with exercising in your current or past MO life? Or, could you? (After all, fat people are "JUST" lazy - right?)

I see it as a kind of vicious circle. You need to exercise to maintain your health, but your health and physical state won't let you, because of being MO.

Exercise, what's that? Pre-op I could barely walk up a flight of stairs without passing out. 5 minutes of any machine got me dizzy. Any group class wore me out in the first 2-3 minutes. I tried all of the tricks, like park farther awy, take the stairs, etc trying to get at least something daily in. Even walking hurt the joints to much. The chlorine gases from water classes made me sick. I was able to do a truck load of weight lifting. It's just not enough when you're MO.

Now, I can walk and almost forget how far I go. Last night I planned on a 30 minute walk. It ended up lasting 60 minutes because I got sidetracked in exploring other trails.

I love water aerobics. Can actually sweat while in water....who'd a guessed! I am doing that pre-op....will have to wait a bit after surgery....but it is a great form of exercise. I also like the ecliptical bikes...little strain on the knees and joints!

Before wls, a walk through Wal-mart wore me out and that was if I parked close to the door. This is terrible BUT I used to bitch-How many handicapped people could possible be at Wal-mart at once! They don't need that many spaces. I hadn't been in the upstairs part of my house more than 4 or 5 times since we had moved in because the trek up there about killed me. Now I park as far away as I can usually (just got my gall bladder out yesterdat so that is on hold for now) and I go to Curves (also on hold for a couple of weeks). I love going places and walking around and just being able to move enough to get excercise.
