Aleve, Tums and Zyrtec okay?
Post-surgery, are the following medications okay to still take:
Aleve - for headaches on occasion (not often, maybe 2-3 times a month). It's acetaminophen, aspirin and ibuprofen free. From their website re active ingredient: "ALEVE contains 200 mg of naproxen and 20 mg of sodium"
Zyrtec - for high-allergy days when my seasonal allergies hit. The active ingredient is 10mg of "cetirizine HCI"
Tums - for acid reflux, I take 1 a day, 4-5 times a week. It's a calcium carbonate.
Also, just wondering, I've seen some folks put "Lap RNY" in their signatures. Is that for a lap-band or for laparoscopic RNY?
Thanks!

What Kelly said is correct.. Aleve is Naproxon and is an NSAID which are harmful to the pouch.
Zyrtec is fine (the generics are way way cheaper and work fine for me and hubby.. we now buy ours at costco though BJ's is also a good price, too)
Tums, I guess they're okay.. but most doctors have us take another med that works similarly, so just make sure if you're given any sort of protectant that you're not double dosing.
Just don't use Tums as a calcium supplement as post oppers, we don't absorb calcium carbonate- assuming you're having anything other than the lap band.
Lastly.. Lap RNY is laproscopic RNY. Lap Band is Lap Band or Banded.. There is also a new band called the Realize, though we don't have a lot of people talking about that here, yet.

Bummer, I like Alieve. I know Advil and Motrin are out as well, I believe.
So, what do you take for headaches other than Tylenol? Their product just never seems to work for me, or the allergy/sinus stuff knocks me out, which isn't good for going to work. LOL

Liquid Tylenol is so sweet it makes me feel sick. And Tylenol doesn't do a thing for me anyway so I usually just skip it.

Kelly and Kel have already answered your question so not much for me to add in.
For general aches and pains I use Tylenol. If I need something stronger my pcp will order Ultram or Vicodan. But for OTC stuff you are limited to Tylenol.
