The silent ones
I never can quite read people who see me the first time post WLS (down almost a 100 lbs now, and say nothing whatsoever. One in particular ignores it like nothing is different (maybe that is the point). I don't think I have met more than about a handful of these silent comment people, everyone else has been great, positive etc.... not that I am seeking it out, hell no! Just wonder what it is they are trying to say by not saying anything. Some of these people are not fat themselves and never been in my time knowing them. My relationship with them has changed one ioda either.
Anyone else get this sometimes and have it figured out what might be going on with these types ?

Unless it is someone I know very well, I would not comment on someone's weight or weight loss. I just think it's a personal thing and none of my business and I think it might seem rude to comment on someone's weight. I would not be trying to say anything by not mentioning it, I would be trying to be polite.

Its funny I read this today. Yesterday at my doc's office I ran into a woman from work who I haven't seen since well before the surgery and my 60+ lbs weight loss. My doc noticed us speaking to each other and asked me if I knew her. I told him, yes from work and he then asked if she commented on my weight loss because as he said "You look really good". When I told him no, he was surprised, but then I realized that she was the type to only want to speak about herself and not notice anything about anyone else. This womand is one who I have known for a good 30 years so I would have expected her to notice the change in my body.

People have friended me on FB from highschool and grade school who all knew me as a fat girl. None of them have really said much other than "you look great". I'm sure with my medical issues, theyve guessed how I lost it.
Some people don't know how to react to weird/uncomfy social situations. What do you say "omg, you were so fattttt" lol.

Or "OMG you look so wonderful - you used to look like the Michelin Man rolling through the halls!" I guess silence is golden sometimes!

I am afraid to admit this to you all...because I am really pretty ashamed of myself. i should know better but, I am who I am .... and she knows me and how I am and she likes me anyway!!!
BUT, after not seeing one of my "friends" for several years I saw her at my surgeon's support group. I could not believe it. She looked awesome. I mean really really cute. very hip and trendy. When I had been hanging out with her she was very frumpy. Old worn out clothes, hair a complete wreck, just very unattractive (as was I, let's not forget that part.) I met her at a twins club and our kids were pretty young. We WERE wrecks.
Anyway, I ran into her at this meeting and my eyes popped out of my head and (like a total bitch) I said "oh my god you look so great---wow, you were such a BEAST and look at you now...my god you are a BEAUTY!!!" As soon as I said it i felt terrible. I continued to tell her I would kill to look as good as her...and i was still the beast and blah blah...i totally meant it as a compliment but I know it was a stupid thing to say. BUT, she knew me--I hope she knew I meant it in a nice way. It was just an unbelievable transformation.
Oh well, I never claimed to be perfect. I guess my point is--sometimes it is BETTER that certain people (myself being one of them) just dont say anything...(EVER!!!!)

Stacie - I bet you could have bit your tongue off after saying that. And isn't it funny how we carry on talking after saying something we know is just not what should have come out? Oh well, I'm sure the person you're referring to knew you well enough that she took it as a compliment, if not, not much you could do about it!

Funny this comes up now but yesterday a old co-worker came by the office to say hi to everyone and he left in February before I lost any weight. I caught him whispering to someone asking who I was which I thought was pretty funny.
