Default Gifts from surgery / Doctors

I was reading Dara's post where she thanked Dr. C for the gift of life he gave her and it made me think about all the gifts I have gotten from doctors over the years. And, since I was ranting in another thread about health care and insurance in the US I thought I should share some of the blessed things I have received in my life from doctors!

- Immunizations that kept me from some dreaded diseases that still afflict some people around the globe
- A healthy childhood after having surgery to remove my always infected tonsils and adnoids which kept me sick constantly
- Surgery that finally restored my hearing from those constant ailments I had before I had my tonsils and adnoids out
- Surgery that helped me greaty reduce the number of sinus infections I get
- Two beautiful babies born healthy after a C-section
- A son who lived because a doctor walking by his hospital room saw he was in terrible distress - he wasn't getting enough oxygen. This happened in spite of my pleas to the nurse that something wasn't right.
- Surgery that got rid of my excess skin that made it embarrassing to have sex, wear a swimsuit, wear shorts and many other things
- A life extended by at least 3 years from WLS - not to mention the better quality that life will have!

I could probably think of a million things to thank my dr's for but these are the ones that come to mind in the 10 minutes I have spent typing this.

Thanks, Doc!

Veronica, That was beautiful, We sometimes forget how great doctors can be.
My seven year old had both kidneys fail in October 2003 without her surgery's she would have died. I am so greatful that God and her doctor saved her,
along with many other things that doctors have done for family and friends.

That is wonderful! The things we sometimes take for granted or fail to recognize the healthcare community for. Let's not forget the nurses! I have had two that really stand out-Margie-she delivered my youngest daughter in the hallway of the hospital and was just wonderful and kept coming by to check on me and my very tiny premature daughter for the many weeks she spent in NICU and Betty-she was the only good nurse I had when I had wls. All the others would have let me rot. She took wonderful care of me and my hubby. I had a pretty rotten experience in that hospital except for her. She was just a great nurse who really cared about her patients.

My placenta ruptured during the delivery of my daughter. Without my doctor's quick intervention neither of us would have made it. My son was not only breech but sideways, after one doctor refusing to order a c-section, I saw a different doctor who would. Three weeks after my son's delivery, he was diagnosed with pyloric stenosis. An emergency surgery saved his life, but not until a passing doctor in the ER witnessed him throwing up blood, validating my claims and got something done.

So often we don't think about the little things. Or we forget. Three doctors helped my babies live. I can't say thank you often enough.

When my son was sick and almost died I realized how completely helpless I was as a parent. That doctor who saved him and rode in the ambulance with us when he was transferred to another hospital did something for my son I would have never been able to do. I was so humbled by that experience - I will never forget the moment I realized what a blessing God had given to the world by giving doctors the gifts and talents to save lives.
