Default Could this prevent surgery?

I just came home from my stress test and I passed with flying colors. (doc said I wouldn't-showed her) but while I was there she was reading the report from the GI doc for the endoscopy I had yesterday.

It said I had a hiatal hernia (no surprise) and he took biopsy for polyps in my stomach (had them 2 years ago but were benign)and I am sure they still are and also they took biopsy to rule out Barretts esophagus (which they 2 years ago also and it was negative)

So my PCP told me these problems could possibly prevent me from having the surgery.

Really? Anyone have any of these issues and still have RNY...I am waiting patiently for the lab results.

I don't think any of them will hurt your chances for surgery. It does sound like you have an uninformed PCP.

I don't think those things are likely to prevent you from having surgery, no. But you need to ask your surgeon. I think your PCP is probably just not well informed about WLS.

You got that right...she is temporary until my PCP comes back from maternity leave. My PCP rocks!

She actually told me I would fail this stress test!Showed her. She is also the one that refused to check my thyroid a week ago because I was so close to pre-op bloodwork and I had to call the office and DEMAND bloodwork because I know how I feel when my thyroid was off. I was right...it was very off.

Why do doctors got to go get pregnant! lol

Your temp. PCP sounds like someone who needs to learn to be more positive towards patients. Not very nice to say that you probably would fail the stress test - good for you passing!!! I must have a doc that rocks because he knows that I know my body best. When I was feeling sick and tired he did a thyroid test and found it was slightly low, but instead of treating the "number" he treated the "patient" and put me on synthyroid and has to increase it several times over the years. I just love him and find his positive support is just what I need. Now, mind you, he doesn't dispense drugs for everything that's for sure, but he takes the time listen and gets things done for me without a huge fuss. Plus, I am not a person who like taking pills and he knows it. I've tried to get off Prozac, Synthyroid (which will be lifelong) and the B.P. meds, but he tells me to just be patient and soon I can try to wean myself off them. I trust him. Wish everyone had a doc like mine and if he ever retires, I don't know what I'll do!!!! Its a good thing he's younger than me.

I have a rare condition with my esophagus called accalasia. I originally wanted to have lapband done, but it was contraindicated for people that have this condition. I ended up having bypass instead. So hopefully your condition will not prevent the surgery.

Isn't it great Rhonda to have a doc like that. I had one like that for years until I had to change to an HMO. Luckily my PCP on leave is like that. Yes, Treat the patient not the numbers. I have Hashimotos disease and had a partial thyroidectomy. So I will always be on it too. I know the lab results I feel best at and what is normal for the lab is not for me.

Thanks Holly....makes me feel better that he did it on you. Gives me hope. I would think if it prevents GERD somewhat it is a good idea.
