This morning on the Doctors Television program, a caller asked if she should have Lap Band or Gastric Bypass-she is 100 pounds overweight, and whether she should go to Mexico to get the Lap band since her insurance would not cover her.
The Doctor recommended that she not go to Mexico but instead save up or borrow to have a safe surgery here in the US and he told her to have Gastric Bypass, the tried and true procedure and tackle her problem once and for all.
Just thought it was interesting enough to share.

That show drives me crazy, but also some good stuff comes out of it! I can't put my finger on what I don't "like" about the 4....

That was good advise --- esp. the part about NOT going to Mexico to have the surgery. My surgeons are blown away by those coming to them with lap bands done in Mexico and not having a clue how/why they work (or don't work)... No excuse for such ignorance and NON-research!

Of course everyone is going to boast saying there surgery is the better option and yes it is - For them. Everyones different and thats why no one on here makes the same decision - As for people that don't research either of the surgeries? I don't think they should be allowed to have them, I have the band and researched it for a year. I'm on another lapband site and the amount of people that come in saying "Ok so how does this thing work" that are already banded or almost done is absolutely RIDICULOUS - I would have thought that before getting any surgery you would seriously research it? Apparently this isn't true - As for that show the doctors, it was on here in australia for about 2 months and they replaced it with dr phil but what I did see of it, they're just trying to gain profits for there own personal gain like any doctor.
