It took me telling only 1 friend to find out that I didn't want to tell anyone else. She basically lectured me on how drastic it was to have GBS and how if I just exercised more, I could lose the weight. Oddly this is the same response I got from the P.A. in my doctor's office. My friend also informed me that she and her husband lost a lot of weight "doing it the old-fashioned way"
I admire all of you who can say you don't care what others think. I've never been that way - what others think has always influenced me - especially when it comes to my friends who see me differently than I see myself.
I just look at it now as people in my life are told on a "need to know" basis. My husband is supportive, my mom is very supportive, my daughter is too. The 2 sons, not so much, but they know to keep their comments to themselves. I think they're just more afraid of surgery itself than the process.
