What happens if you don't get enough water?
I know this seems like an obvious answer, but can you give me some examples as to what happens if you don't get all of your water in for the day. Can it make you stall on losing weight or can it mess with your metabolism. Just curious. I am 4 months post op and still struggle getting it all in....I do make an effort though

I passed out in the shower and fell through my glass doors when I was sick. I live alone, so I had to call 9-1-1 myself. This was almost 3 months ago.
I'm ok now, but it took 2 IV bags to get me rehydrated.
My advice- If you can't drink all your fluids, suck on ice cubes, sf popsicles, or eat watermelon. Once you get behind, it's hard to catch up, especially in summer!

Do an advanced search on the tag "dehydration" ... somewhere there is a post detail all the things that could happen if you become dehydrated.. short end of it is, as Jobu says.. it can kill you.
But before it does, it makes you frackin' miserable. Seriously... I allowed myself to get dehydrated as I has so much trouble getting my fluids in and I was soo incredibly sick. Do whatever it is you need to do to get the fluids into yourself, PLEASE..

Yeah, sorry, I was trying to be funny.... lol
I have a lot of fluid issues as well.. I try to drink low sugar gatorade most of the day and I still can't seem to get enough in. I get very dizzy almost every time I stand up... It really comes down to me needing over 2 liters are fluid every day and its friggin impossible to accomplish most of the time... A little heat and some sweating and I feel like crap for the rest of the day..
Drink drink drink!

I know a lot of docs say 'no straws'.. but mine has no issue with it.. since I drank more with a straw pre-op, it was easier for me to drink that way without causing too much of the gas problems and my fluid intake soared. Check with your doc and see, if you're interested in trying it.

Well, find out WHY they say no straws. usually they'll say it's cuz it causes gas. I accidently did it without thinking one time when I went through the dunkies drive through for an iced coffee... and about an hour later I went "uh oh"... but then realized I didn't have an problem so I was curious what they said. My doc & nut both said if it doesn't cause you gassy problems from sucking in air, then go for it. But some docs might be more reluctant.
For me, it was the difference between suffering and not suffering. I fart like theres no tomorrow but I rarely burp.

I got dehydrated twice shortly after my surgery. I was weak, dizzy, nauseous, and just all around felt like crap. I had to go to the ER and get fluids by IV.
