Default 's OK, I love it, too...

The only cold drink that has consistently not made me ill, and has kept me hydrated all these years since surgery is tea with Splenda. I drink about a gallon of Cold Brew tea every other day. I am well aware that tea has a tendency to increase kidney stones, but I canNOT drink water alone. It still makes my stomach spasm, whether it's cold, hot, or lukewarm. After three or four sips my throat closes down and won't accept any more at all. I've tried all the Crystal Light drink mixes, and pretty much every sugar-free and high-protein drink mix. Can't deal with them in very short order. And decaf tea is nasty. Sorry, but it is.

Bluntly, if tea and coffee didn't help with hydration, I'd be dead. There are days when I drink nothing else because I can stomach nothing else. I am NOT promoting this as a way of life, I'm saying this is how I adjusted. And the research is out there to back it up that they do count for your liquid intake. So, by the way, does water in food, including soup, watermelon, cantaloupe, etc. If you can get liquids in, get them in any way you can... Because of my issues with water, and before they released me to drink caffeine again, dehydration landed me in the ER twice having bags of fluid pumped into me. Not fun, and hasn't happened since.

Lisa Thank yo so much for your thorough info, With the back up. I have always been told the whole caffine dieretic thing and cut my intake to just one cup in the moring but have still ended up in the ER with dehydration, I think I will give it a go with making iced tea and coffee and see if it gets better for the next week.
What works for one doesn't always work for all but what is going on right now isn't working for me.

I asked the nurse if I could get a couple bags of IV fluids to go and just do one a night at home. I don't know why not but I tried.

First off on the straws.....Straws are not supposed to be used because they give you gas, but also because they force air into your pouch. The air will make you uncomfortable and fill you up quicker. I have proven this a few times that I have forgot to remove the straw.

Do you work out at all? The reason I ask is beacause I do. I make sure that by the time I leave the gym in the morning, I make sure that I have atleast one bottle of water down me, 17 oz. Then I have my protein shake at some point into the day, another 15-20 oz. That is over half the amount of fluid we need. Then I have one more glass of 1% milk, or another water, etc. another 16 oz. That puts me at about 52 oz. I then have one of two glasses of caffiene free instant tea a day. I sip this at my desk at work. I also will sometimes have the international cafe as a treat.

I hope that this helps you.

I have had days where I am only in the 30-40 oz. range and am almost 8 months out. I have never had any problems with dehydration. I guess I am one of the lucky ones....
