Default Me Too

I am 7 months out and I am at a stand still too for over a month. I have between 310 and 307 for over a month. Don't know whats going on but my clothes are still falling off me. It can get discouraging but hang in there I know it will kick back into gear soon.

Angry Thanks

Thanks for the kind words. I can't help but feel that I have done this surgery for nothing. It has been 6 weeks since the surgery and the first 2 weeks was the only time I lost anything. My clothes don't feel any looser either. I am a member of curves and do that faithfully but it doesn't seem to be enought. My doctor still has me on soft foods so maybe it is a protein issue? I'm hanging in there but just disappointed.

There is one thing I wish I had done pre-op but didn't and its not to late to do it now-Take some measurements! You are probably still losing inches even if the pounds aren't coming off. Plateaus really suck but it happens to all of us! Keep your chin up and your eye on the prize!

Donna, just think you have already lost 20 lbs!!! That is 4 bags of sugar you no longer carry around with you on a daily basis! Also, remember that muscle weighs more than fat, so you may loose fat and inches but still see the same weight on the scale. Start taking measurements that should help you see the real progress you are making.

Donna-

From what I've heard from everyone on this forum....

PUT THE SCALE AWAY!!!! You'll get enough weighing in at the Dr's office.

I like the idea of getting measurements. It'll help you see things clearly.

I've NEVER relied on the scale. It's too depressing!!!

Taking your measurments is a sanity saver!!! At least it is for me, I have only lost 6lbs this last month, which gave me a huge scare because i was on a roll after surgery; i was losing 20lbs a month every month for the first 4 months and this month only 6!!! yikes. But after measuring myself on the same day every month i can see i might not have lost lbs. but i have lost lots of inches. So, please take your measurements! It is really a spirit booster.

Default Breaking the Plateau

I was looking up this very topic this morning and found this article.

How to Break Out of a Weight Loss Plateau
http://thyroid.about.com/cs/dietweig.../blplateau.htm

from Copyright 2003 Renee Kennedy
What is a weight loss plateau?

You are on a diet, but you reach a period of time (two or more weeks) where you can't seem to lose any weight. Your weight may actually fluctuate 3lbs up or down, but you can't seem to break below this range.

You can experience a weight loss plateau for different reasons:

1. You are consuming too many calories for the amount of calories that you are burning off.

2. You are not consuming enough calories; your body defends itself by slowing down your metabolism.

First, you need to determine if you are experiencing a plateau or if your weight is in a state of normal fluctuation. Weigh yourself once per week. If you have not lost any weight after 3 weeks, you've hit a plateau. Remember, people lose weight at different rates.

probably don't need to change anything. The closer you get to your goal weight, the harder it will be to lose weight.

Second, if you are experiencing a plateau, look at your current diet and exercise patterns. The NutriCounter can function as a measurement tool to see how many calories you are consuming each day. (http://www.nutricounter.com) It will also help you determine if you are eating the appropriate amount of carbohydrates and protein each day. You should also keep an exercise journal that will help you determine how much exercise you are getting each day.

Here are some patterns that you may need to break. (Note: before trying any of the methods below, get your doctor's advice. This is especially important if you have special dieting needs.)

1. You should be eating at least 1200 calories a day if you are a woman and 1500 calories per day if you are a man. If you restrict your calories too much your body will start stockpiling fat because it thinks you are starving.

2. You may try to break a plateau by decreasing the percentage of carbohydrates and increasing the percentage of protein that you intake each day.

3. Another common recommendation is not to mix your protein and carbohydrates. If you have a protein breakfast, wait 2-3 hours before resuming your balanced meals.

4. Generally speaking, you should be exercising no more than 1 hour per day. However, ask yourself if your fitness routine is intense enough? Simply walking around the block for 15 minutes a day may not be enough for you. Each person is different. Also, walking around the block may have been an excellent exercise when you first started to lose weight, but it may not be enough now that you've hit a plateau.

5. If you have recently added a fitness regimen to help you lose weight, you may experience a slight weight gain for the first few weeks, especially if part of that routine involves weight lifting. This can be a very frustrating experience. If you are engaged in an intense workout regimen, it may help to measure yourself with a measuring tape, rather than the scale. You will be putting on muscle and muscle will burn more calories than fat, but it's also heavier.

6. If you are already on a low calorie diet and you are sticking to it, then it is not recommended that you cut out any more calories. Increasing your activity is really the key to breaking out of a plateau. However, if you are "supposed" to be on a low calorie diet but you are not sticking to it, well, the answer is obvious: you need to stick to it.

To all of you wonderful people that wrote me. Thank you so much for the kind words and encouragement. It is very depressing to not be loosing but maybe you guys are right that I need to measure. I do belong to curves so I had her take my measurements and I had lost 16 inches so I do feel good about that. The only thing that worries me is that my clothes still seem to fit????? How can that be??????? Thanks again for lifting my spirts. I think that I am really going to focus on trying to get more portein in as I haven't done that yet as I am still on soft foods.

Peckdale,

Thank you so much for that information. I really needed it today. I am on week 4 or something like that of staring at the same weight. Up 1 down 1, up 2 down 2, up 3 down 3. I am glad to not be gaining but I didn't sigh up for staying the same.

I say Potts yesterday and he is very pleased with my weight loss so far. Very please. He said I was just were he wanted me to be at 6 months. He told me that he expects me to lose another 15-20 lbs in the next 90 days. That would put me about 25 lbs away from goal.

After reading this articule I am going to step up my exercise again. I was taking a break cuz I was out of town. I am not feeling very well since I got back from San Salvador. Sore throat and some chest congestion. But I can still at least walk with my husband this morning.

I did go pshyco on the treadmill last night. it felt good and It helped me to sleep better last night than I have slept since returning from my trip.

Anyway,

Thanks Peckdale. I almost bought the calculator but changed my mind. I am just going to start writing down everything that goes into my mouth. Or do fitday.com
