Default Pcp Appointment Tomorrow-should I Say Anything Special

Hi Everyone,

Okay, tomorrow is my appointment with my PCP to ask for a referral for GBS. Is there anything special I can say that will make her instantly think "OH YEAH, SHE IS A PERFECT CANDIDATE"! Since I have my mind set on getting this done, my heart will break if she says no.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,
Cindy

I don't know if this will help or not but when I asked my PCP for a referral I had my history all ready for her. I stated how long I had been like this, what current health problems I have been dealing with and my plans for what I will do after the surgery to help me lose the weight and to keep it off. She was surprised that I asked about it since she had never talked to me about it before. She has been my doctor for over 7 years so she has seen my weight fluctuate. She said yes to it....now 2 months later I have been approved and my date is set for August 3rd. I hope everything goes smoothly for you.

I know this sounds hokey BUT the only advice I can give you is-TELL THE TRUTH THE WHOLE TRUTH AND NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH. Just explain how you feel, where you think your health is headed, and what you have tried in the past to lose the weight. This is the one case where I firmly believe honesty is the best policy. If you can't trust your primary doc to do what is best for you and whta you want as far as treatment goes then (my opinion) you should find another doc. I hope everything goes well for you tommorrow. Just remember-The doctor is YOUR employee!

Cindy,
Well I had already seen Dr. Callery before I even went to my PCP provider for a recommendation, so when I went in to see her I just told her what I was going to have done and what I needed from her. Kelly and Lisa had told me what should be the referal letter. I had a list of all the "diets" and things I had done under her care and else where. It didn't even occur to me that she wouldn't do it.
Good Luck. It's the best decision I've ever made.

Well you have already gone by the time I read this, but, I made my PCP ask me if I wanted to do the surgery.
DR: "You are too healthy to be the size you are, have you tried to lose weight?"
ME: "Yes meridia, Xenical, Seattle Sutton, Weight Watchers, Exercise"
ME: "What else is there?"
DR: Have you thought about Gastric Bypass?
ME: You get the insurance to pay I am there!

Thanks everyone! She agreed to put in for a referral for a consult with the surgeon. Now I just have to jump all the hoops to get it done. I am thinking I probably won't be getting it done until March or April.
