Default Preop Liquid Diet

Can someone please describe the liquid diet some docs put you on prior to surgery?? I am interested in doing this to shrink my liver when the time comes.

Thanks,

Mike

Smile OPTIFAST diet!

Hi,

I was told to go on "optifast" for two weeks prior to surgery...due to a "fatty liver"

Along with optifast i was allowed 1 cup of selected vegies per day and unlimted sugar free drinks (artificial sweeteners)...such as flavoured cordial, sugar free jello..sugar free custard.....and thats pretty much it....

Optifast is basically a low calorie liquid diet (800 cals/day)....it really doesn't taste that bad..(especially the chocolate shake)....

It has all the protein and selected vitamins & minerals your body needs to give you enough energy to keep you going through out the day!
PLEASE NOTE THAT IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO DRINK AT LEAST 2 LITRES OF WATER/LIQUID A DAY, WHILE ON OPTIFAST!!.......

OKAY.... i was a badddddd girl and i only followed the optifast diet for two days out of the two weeks....the rest of the days, i spent eating everything i desired...

PLEASE ....DONT GET ME WRONG...I AM NOT SAYING YOU SHOULD DO THIS BECAUSE AS YOU KNOW THE HEALTHIER YOU ARE, THE BETTER CHANCES YOU HAVE OF HAVING A SAFER OPERATION.

I CAN ONLY tell you one thing.... if you are like me, you will be thirsty, thirsty, thirsty after the surgery...(I am 7 days post op), i feel greatttttttttt.....but dammm am i thirsty!!

Dont worry about eating mate..... just drink all the liquid you can b4 surgery (preferably artificially sweetened)....but dont sip it.....??? GULP IT!!!!

ENJOY IT my friend!!!! I took gulping cold icy water before surgery for granted!!!! oh how i wish i could just do it one more time!! a real quencher!

Anyways.... I will stop rambling now....

LOL....

Take care & good luck!!!!

Default

I wasn't required to go on any specific diet before my surgery but have been on Optifast before and lost quite a bit of weight on it. The first 3 days are tough because you are hungry but after that you body adjusts (at least mine did) and you aren't as hungry anymore. I had 4 protein shakes and two protein bars a day on the version of Optifast that I went on.
