Two questions...
I've gained about four pounds since I saw Kelly. I was told not to gain any weight before my surgery (8/9/04) . When I went to the nutritional seminar Kelly said they denied surgery to someone before for gaining 7 pounds. She said, "When we say don't gain weight, we mean, don't gain any weight". Well, here's my problem. If I didn't have a problem gaining weight, I wouldn't be here. My question, did any of you gain weight before surgery? If so, how much. I know some of you, Karen, who lost weight.
Second question. How does the absorbtion of vitamines work when the small intestines are shorten, therefore, absorbtion should be reduced. Do you take more vitamines? How about prescription drugs, like antibiotics, do you have to take more so more will be absorbed?
Thanks to all replies.

Hey Kim
I know you have heard this but, "everyone is different". I gained 10 pounds by the time I came in for my thursday post op before surgery. Kelly was not happy, but I had the surgery. Fingers crossed for ya girl.

You know I'm with Bridget I gained 7lbs by then. I think part of mine was muscle to because I've been walking every where I go. When I go shopping I park out a little ways so I can walk more. I'm trying to do everything they asked. I mean I wouldn't say gain a lot of weight but just do your best. I think if its over 10lbs they may say something. Just do your best and make sure they know you are doing your best. Good luck and if you need anything feel free to let me know.

That's so funny...
Here I'm trying to do what's right, salad and protein, no dressing, really watching what I'm eating, like my whole life of failure attempts at lossing weight. For the past three weeks, since knowing of surgery date, I can't do anything to stop gaining. WTF is that about? Is this sabatoge? I just starting reading Carnie Wilson's new book "I'm still Hungry, through think and thin". I guess I've got some inner searching to do on this.
Thank you for sharing your experiences with me. You are all so helpful and fully supportive.

I gained 6 lbs, nothing was said. I had to say good bye and have one last serving of all the things I know I can't have. So long super sized hot fudge sundaes, good bye to triple cheeseburgers, adios to 16 oz steak, cheesecake, gulping soda, etc.
And I don't miss them one bit.
Yeah, you'll be taking vitamins for the rest of your life. They'll tell you which ones and when to start taking them.

Kim, I think I lost about 4-5 lbs between pre-op visit and surgery but I'll never know....they didn't weigh me before surgery. I was kinda ticked cause I wanted to know what my true pre-op weight was. I was weighed 1 day post-op and was 3 lbs more than my pre-op appt. By that time I'd had the surgery and I don't know how many bags of IV solution.
