I just read the following on the Tufts Medical Center Web Site:

"Unfortunately, you must not take birth control pills during the month before surgery, and for at least two months after surgery because they increase the risk of blood clots. Please be sure to talk with your primary care doctor or gynecologist about a birth control method that will be best for you."

Does anyone know anything about this? I haven't read this anywhere else. This is disturbing! I am going in for a consult on August 2nd.

I had to stop 2 or 3 weeks before (I don't remeber which it was), and then was told I could start taking them normally after my period started again. I've alway had a "normal" period, so I think I started taking them again about 2 weeks after surgery.

I was told to stop one month before surgery and have one full cycle after surgery before resuming birth control pills.
